this is a model done completely in Wings 3D, a freeware 3D modeler which I HIGHLY reccomend, over the course of (whatever free time I had in) 2 weeks
it's inspired by several features from helicopters like the forward camera pod on a Cobra, and the cockpit of a Hind, and the overall sleek shape of the Commanche
it's allso inspired by polykarbon's "wasp mech" but I tried to stay away from Insect motions with limbs and wings moving at all time, and instead use conventional Ideas like turbines and engines and design around that
anyone feel like doing texture? |

looks great! its definatly come along way. i do like the overall sleakness of it, but i feel that the legs need a little reworking. |

cool! try beveling some edges and then smoothing the whole thing to get rid of the faceted look but still keep the mechanical look. one thing i don't like about the model is the way the legs come out of the body- seems taped on .
the brazil render is great, btw.
about wings3d- it's that Nendo clone, right? have you tried nendo? how does wings3d compare? |

I've tried nendo for quite a while before it stopped working on my syste (video problems) wings may have started out as a nendo clone, but I have to say it is currently in VERY active development, and it gets new features and better stability every day, currently I think it's better than nendo in quite a few ways (still no way to texture, but I am willing to do that in other more suiteable programs) it's a very enjoyable program to use, and I'd reccomend it to anyone.
btw I have a final version of the model, in the form of a Cult3D object (I'm in the process of getting a license)
http://home.earthlink.net/~shahar/gallery/3D/Battle-wasp/Wasp.co
I was allso impressed with Cult 3D after trying out Viewpoint, and Macromedia 3D web tools I'd have to say cult is the easiest way for me to show off 3D models, in actual 3D short of programming my own java applet (dont know that yet)
Bilbo: yah the legs still bother me too, maybe I'll do something with them, but right now it's at 760 polys and I like to keep my count low
Roundeye: thanks, hehe I listed all my inspirations though, so I dont take 100% of the credit for the design
