This is an image I did a while ago using photoshop to experience with textures, and I also had to do a pinup piece.
Thought it was a good image for my first post.
Check my website for more. www.geocities.com/habibfeghali/

well, so far I guess I can say its a really well done peice of work.
only one crit,
the leg closest to us, the thigh seems awefully short. Im not sure if that was supposed to be foreshortening but it seems that if here knees were at the same level the back one would stick out waaay farther.
The hair Rocks. The face rocks. the leather/vinyl/whatever looks fabulous. stunning peice. |

I think it's fine bit of digital art and I'm surprised it didn't get a slew of comments. The only quiestionable bit is the red pot.

Thank you people for the comments.
---Malachi,the scariest thing about your "Ancient Obsession",is not the gore, but the level of realism,I immediatly put your site in my "favorites" folder.Loved the skin colors---
---Awetopsy,great observation with the leg,and yes,it was supposed to be foreshortening.---
---Sumaleth,the pot was a last minute thing,it was not really researched, but I think it helps set the background from where the character is originated,a mexican-latino style...---
Keep up the great work.

Nice work, only thing that disturbs me a bit is her right breast, shouldn't it be a bit smaller, because it farer away, instead it seems be a bit bigger than her left breast. Mayby it's me, don't know... |

---TheFritz,her right breast is pushed by her right arm so it should look a bit squeezed therefor a bit larger.

Come on, admit it's some kind of phallic symbolism. It can't be just me

Good skill.
There's strong contrast between the ultra-refined rendering on the subject, and the extreme minimalist approach to the background. I'm not sure if that's necessarily a good thing. There are illustrators that can get away with fusing graphic design elements into their paintings, but there's usually something that connects the tight rendering with the flat, hard-edged graphics. One of the tricks is to not render the entire subject so tightly, and another would be to beef up the graphics with some more representational form in value and rendering.
Take for example Hajime Sorayama. I think he's very skilled, but I love his work the best when he actually makes his subjects interact with his backgrounds. When he does his usual white background with very realistic figures, it doesn't hold together as well for me.
Are you familiar with the pinup illustrators of the past? Guys like Gil Elvgren, Bill Medcalf, Al Buell...etc. Their style is more painterly(oils), and their subjects almost always interact with some sort of background, and that for me, is a more interesting, even if the main purpose of the piece is to showcase feminine allure.
But, it could be that you WANT the sharp contrast between your subject and your background. If that's the case, disregard everything I just said.

Thanks Lunatique, I think what you're saying is 100% correct and I find it artistically very mature.Of course I know and love the old masters.
And I know they are a great influence to every artist, whether he admits it or not ,and whether he knows it or not.
Personaly,I was aiming to the most realistic style I can think of.Being also a graphic designer,I wanted a light but stylish background, almost invisible, just to break the white. So the graphic element was definitaly intentional.
But if you chech out my other post -" The Exploding Head philosophy "- I think you will find a totally different experience.Which takes your point of view to the extreme.
As for geocities,
When you see a white rectangle with a red x in it ,right click on it,go to Properties, copy the http:// address, paste it in the address bar of your browser, and press enter. You should see the image. Now press Back, there you have it... |

Grrr. I can't access anything that begins with geocities, period. It's been like that since I got to China. No trick can fix that.
geocities isn't the only one. There are other places that I mysteriously can't access. |
