Lisa: Haha, yeah, it's pretty bad when someone gets 30+ replies on sword sketches... I guess being a girl helps a lot. =)

However, I do like your sword, especially the handle... very nice. The blade seems too thick though because of the dark shading.

Nice to see you posting dear, you should do so more often (you, Scoop, and the rest of #digitalart (except Visigothan.. hehe)).

Hey Lisa.. cool design.. The wires are an original touch, don't think I've ever seen that in a sword-design before. I like the damages to the blade. Where's the blood?
btw.. don't forget to put the sword down next time you pounce..

I've started work on my sword. I'm a little weary of posting it up since everyone in this forum does such awesome work. It's not at all complete right now, but I thought maybe I could get some feeback before I got too far into it. I know the image is pretty boring compared to most of the things you see up here, but I have a simple line art image as well if anyone would like to color it.

Maybe someone can offer me some advice on how to make the girl look more golden? I tried to achieve a gold look and failed miserably ^_^

Any advice would be appreciated!

well Lisa, that's a cool sword. I see what you're doing with the strings. it's like having a world that uses guns along with swords, or magic and technology, or wierd things like gunblades.
it also looks like there are bones in it. oh oh! and there's a purple gem in it! what's not to like! =D
that guy might be right about the handle being too thin, but I think it should be a bit longer at least. also the shading on the outside edges of the blade looks a bit too dark.

anyways, here's one of the swords I'm working on. this is just vector (Adobe Illstrator 8.0) and I'll touch it up in PhotoShop when I'm finished.
It's in a set of three swords, one of which is The Master Sword from Zelda. this is the Heavenly Sword, although the name is uncertain. I think originally the Vengence Sword. the third one is the Sword of Destruction, again, name uncertain.
I would appreciate any suggestions. I'm not sure whether to make the handle longer, change the angles of a few curves. this is a recent design update from the previous version, which looked a bit too similar to the Sword of Destruction.

I also have at least one other sword I designed. it's actually a variation of a combination of the Atma and Illumina weapons from Final Fantasy 3. it's one I created for my Cecil the Dark Knight clone, who I named Akira. (he got most of his design from the lego version of him I created
I'll post it later.

THAT REALLY BOTHERS ME how some people get 30+ replies on a sketch. Seriosly, it's like most people here don't care about the art and just want sum people to like em..blah blah bitch bitch.

Your sword is nice though. Theres sumtin too it, and i've seen u've put wrk into it. I like the sharpness and design of it, but i don't know what those little holes with knots in do...although it looks cool.

That is a very unusual sword, it is a very brave design, I think. Nice shapes, looks very plastic.

I would like to see it colored.

PS. try put lisa into your user name, that may you boost the even 40+

Jezebel i suggest you get rid of some of the details on the girl and maybe coat it with something or put a layer of transparrent gold over it. But if it has too much detail it won't look golden.

darkmoon - nice drawing. But I don't think the strings would do any good. I guess you put the strings there to support the heavy blade, right? You should keep in mind that the fist time one would parry a strike and the opponents' sword would go the hilt(?) those strings would snap...

the same goes for you Jezebel... very nice design, but not practical in a swordfight. way too elegant..

just a few thoughts...

BooMSticK: since when were the images in art supposed to be practical?
I will now proceed to try and prove both swords practical.

perhaps a sword like Jezebel's is a light fencing sword. oh, the blade's a bit big for that, but it could be an ornamental ceremonial sword or something. I don't see why the rest of the sword isn't practical other than the two whispy things along the blade. most of the hilt is still solid too.

although it looks like support was what Darkmoon was thinking when she drew the strings, a sword is usually designed with it's own support. (the base of the blade going down all the way into the handle in a good sword) so whether they break or not wouldn't matter. I'm not even sure how often a blow hits the hilt. usually with such big swords don't they just swing them, and cast glancing blows when they hit another blade? I thought (and I may be completely wrong) that it was bad swordsmanship to have a blow come down along your sword like that. maybe 45 degrees to glance it away without taking a hard impact...?

it think it's completely up to the artist whether they want to make it practical or not. we haven't actually been told.
although I can see if it's impractical I suppose there would be good reason to make note of it, I don't think Darkmoon's is impractical at all, and Jezebel's maybe only slightly. (overall the sword is there)

now... what about my sword?? > although it's not supposed to be completely practical since it's a mythical sword made up for a video game story, I would like it to look almost believable. maybe I'll do the evil sword to compare designs before I do any updates.

Dives - Thanks, I'll see what I can do playing around with that idea

Boom - Why would an elegant sword not be practical in a sword fight? Just because there's an angel on the hilt instead of a skull or a demon it's suddenly not as deadly?

Chao - Yeah, those wispy things probably won't stay.. I was trying to come up with another nifty detail to add but it didn't work out too well, hehee.

Thanks for the comments everyone!
