What kinda school are you planing to drop out of? How old are you?

In any case...I dont recomend you to drop out of school. Its the principle of the thing. Finish what you have started, get your papers..it can only help you.

Since your asking about the industy I am guessing your not a hardcore follower that many of us are....we eat breath and sleep CGI. This leads me to assume you havent done very much of 3D, or any other digital art. I might be wrong here though. So, a course in 3D will give you a basic understandment, but it takes soooo much more. Many people looking at the industy from the outside gets very hooked up in the words CGI (Computer Generated Imagery)...well...to be honest..the computer has VERY littel to with the whole process. Its the artists using the computers thats making the art. Most of them have gotten this talent by drawing with pen and paper, brush and canvas, spraycan and a brick wall...tradional mediums.

Now, about what you would learn at a course: I have myself taken a graphics design education, where Photoshop and Illustrator was a part of the courses. Honest to god, I learned VERY littel about these programs at school...I learned ALOT more working with them at home and just testing this and that, so the question is, maybe your time is more well spendt at Art school learning color composistion, the rules of drawing, how human anatomy is....and taking this knowledge and aplying it to your computer at home..learning software. Any how..thats my thoughts.

Either way..finish you current education, there is more then just clases.

About aviable jobs in the industry in the future...do you need to even ask??? yes yes yes yes. My personal take on it is the dawn of digital television. This new medium curently not even born yet (for the masses) will generate ALOT of jobs over the next 10 - 15 years. Also the Massive Multiplayer Online games will generate more positions at game companies...all in all..the CGI buisness seem to need more and more talented people.

I recomend you to get into the buisnes, as its alot of fun, but dont take the shortcut..get a good education.
