Sorry, didn't feel like searching for the original thread. Anyway, I finally had some free time today to color this cool sketch. Hope I did it some justice. One of these days I'll do a background too.

so are you Chapel or Kaiju?? make up yer bloody mind^_^
I think this is rather good. the only problems I have with it are to do with the way you are describing the lightsources. I don't think the airbrush is working to give it a "lit" feel. the higlights aren't going to be soft like that everywhere. put some hard lighting for the lightsource as well.
the values you're using for the higlights aren't really showing up all that much becase the value of the subject is very high as well. I'm not really sure technicaly how it all works but if you want to have the backlight and the one coming from the gun barrel stand out then you'll have to make the rest of the pic darker. it's a sort of daytime ligthing to a degree and the light from the gun wouldn't do much in that setting. just like if you use a torch in the day it doesn't make things much lighter.
Blah...I don't really know. just guessing really.
I think you still need to have a more global dark light range, in that the legs should be darker than the arms or the other way around. it brings everyhting together more.
But it looks real good anyways. My favorite of your colouring so far.

Thanks Rinaldo. (I'm going to stick with Chapel. A few of the art gods prefer that name.) I tried to correct a few things that you mentioned. I think it looks a tad bit better. I moved the lineart over the highlights, and I think it works better.

Yeah I think it has a more depth now, the airbrush over the lines needs to be used sparingly. looks better
If you convert it to greyscale you can see where the values for the highlights are extreemly close to the value you've used on the actual object. like the arm on the right. when converted to geryscale there is basicaly no higlight visible. it is a change in hue more than value which makes it look a bit strange to my eyes.
Hehe I think I like Chapel better but mostly 'cos it's what I'm used to, I have to restrain myself from using it on other forums where you are Kaiju .

I see what you are saying now. I'll have to correct that in the next thing I do. |
