This post is from a member at "Blindmonks Forums", another good art forum (comic/anime art). I thought some of you might be intersted in some "foreign inspiration".

-----------------------------------------
I absolutely love to go to Japanese art sites and get washed up in the neverending current of links. You never know where you'll end up.
So here are some links of interest for those artistically inclined.

A word of warning: Japanese artists seem to have this strange fixation with pre-pubescent girls. Some images are, shall we say, "risque". Now, nothing illegal or shocking or even gross, but art that approaches the line.

But don't let that discourage ya. This is some absolutely fantastic work. And all the dialog is in Japanese, so I don't know a thing about 'em. http://www.din.or.jp/%7Ec-o/ http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/%7Eau4h-kied/ http://scroll.syste.ms/index2.html http://www7.big.or.jp/%7Ehakua/ http://home.att.ne.jp/sea/eri_home/top.html http://www1.odn.ne.jp/tenkyudho/ http://ww2.tiki.ne.jp/%7Ehirotaka/indexr2.html http://www.din.or.jp/~masateru/72union/index.html http://www08.u-page.so-net.ne.jp/pc4/ricky/

On a side note, one of the pages of links that I ended up at had links to American manga artist's pages, as well as Japanese. Our favorite weekly dose of humbling, Gontaro, was listed. And of course he deserves to be amongst these amazing artists whom I must kill. Just kidding, I'll only cripple your drawing hand. Of course, that is a joke too. Or is it?

love,

[ r a t t ]

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Thanks for posting those awesome links. I rarely follow posted links, because oftentimes they're really not worth the time... BUT EVERY ONE of the links you posted was absolutely first rate!

Damn those drawings rule.

Just movin this up in case anyone still has an ego* .. Great stuff! For people who want to get into manga drawing there is actually a series of books devoted to learning how to draw manga.. granted they are rather simplistic and not as good as hours of obervation/practice, but they may be a place to start for some.

Go to amazon or wherever and search for the following "How To Draw Manga" and you should see several results.

*note: some people may actually deserve theirs, this does not apply to all.

I gotta say, some Japanese Anime art just makes my teeth bounce off the floor. Just a note, when you're browsin those sites, don't forget to click around for their links section....often leads to tons of more amateur japanes anime art sites. Sometimes I get bored of the same pic of the anime schoolgirl in pose, but every once in a while, you find some cool stoff.

There's a few artists around the web that are very good as well. Here are a few that I know of.

Gontaro - http://gontaro77.tripod.com/RAKUGAKI/

Any blindmonks - http://www.blindmonks.com/

Pendako - http://pendako.syste.ms/index_frame.html

Peace N Love - http://konfusion.rydia.net/main.html

Locke - http://damaged.anime.net/

IMpromanga - http://www.impromanga.org/

Excellent list, Xcal. Thanks for bringing that up here. I was particularly impressed with Erimo's sense of light.

Speaking of anime that makes you cry, RIDE is unquestionably one of the greatest works I've seen in my time in comics. LOcke exhibits emotional mastery of both writing and art that makes me want to give up each time he comes up with something new. Quite a lovely fellow to boot.

Also quite pleased you mentioned Gontaro in there. Nice guy, gorgeous art, and really facinating color as well. Highly recommended.

Blindmonks, unfortunately is down for the time being undergoing a site redesign by the webmaster, Bom. (Danny) Many of the fellows in said collective have (sometimes dated) websites which are listed on the temporary index page. I'd encourage you colorists to take a look at my good friend Darrin Moore's artwork, as the lad has been compared quite favorably to many pros out there in the comic industry. Spectacular stuff.

A.

A. Mount: thanks for the "Ride" link. I can't believe I've never read that one before. Incredible. Sure beats the kaka out of reading another issue of X-men. That was pure poetry. Damn that's inspiring. I'm either gonna go draw a comicbook or slit my wrist now...

My pleasure. Sure as hell got me writing in a hurry. Rumor has it that one of my new bestest buddies from around here is painting it.

Fact of the matter is that there aren't too many online comics out there I find are worth reading. But every now and then you stumble across something like this and woof!

2 years ago i discovered this site:
The page of Boobs (warning: extreme adult content (duh))
through the libraries of links ive been exposed to japanese computer art which has inspired me. I tried to emulate the common style of webdesign with my own site and I think all this proves once again that japanese people are really really cool (and sickly perverted ;f)
I recommend you explore some of the stuff out there even though you might not be able to read japanese, just try clicking random links, and see where it takes ya good luck

"Tacked" ... I don't get it... help me out here!

I've been to the anime sites, the problem is that I just don't have the time to wade through 10 sites to find one that is awesome. Its not that I don't enjoy the surfing itself, its just that I really don't have the time to spare. Actually this board is a "luxury" I can hardly afford either...

AMOUNTS- Thanks for posting the RIDE link. That's pretty cool! There's a bunch of stuff that comes to mind that I would slightly tweak about it [some of the dialogue, slight pacing], however that isn't meant as a bad thing. In truth that's usually a sign that I REALLY like something and that it inspires me on some levels. [Hey, you're talking to the guy who's 're-storyboarded' several scenes of Gladiator... yea right.. like Ridley Scott doesn't know what he's doing... I need professional help! ]
