A really good resource is the alt.design.graphics newsgroup.

Hi all, I am a Web Designer by trade with
no formal training in traditional graphic
design. Lots of computer stuff, and some
art classes, but no visual communications.

I'm wondering if there is a site out there
that discusses the fundamentals of graphic
design. Balance, for example. Or if there
are any good books that cover this topic.

I think that the best web designers come from
a print media background (letterhead / logo
design / graphic design) and with that in mind
I am trying to learn more about that field.
