OK. after all this discussion about how vital and important drawing and painting from life is. And since all I do in my high school art class is draw from life. Well the thing is, my teacher tells me to draw what I know about the object, and I've seen people say to draw what you see. So which one?

Here's a few paintings of objects on my desk that I've done.

My Lamp (yea I've posted it here before):

Anyone wanna guess what this one is:

draw what you see. ignore your rational mind that will tell you what somehting looks like.

This is depending on what one is wantihg to get out of life drawing I would imagine. if you draw a portrait and you draw what you think that face looks like it is going to be a guess. by viewing everyhitng as an abstact shape it is easier to guage relationships and negative space.

good job guys, is it just me or is hackey sack the greatest thing ever? to kill time at least.

And thanks for the replies on my questions. I think my teacher meant what you know about the shape. He really is a good teacher we draw from life and he teaches the basics. Plus since I'm usually the first one finished with our assignment I have acces to all the supplies
