while i was waiting for Stormvermin to post a scanned pic from a book i did this pic...
i tryied a new style.... it's not 100% finished....
will do a bg
make his right arm a little bigger etc....
his right eye was supposed to be smaller, but i think i will make them the same size...
the big wire on the gun doesn't look so good, so i will either change it or take it away...
well....

The cow says..., "NORF NORF"!!
I like to say, "wok wok wok wok wok"
fire the proton killbeam!
Oh uh.... facinating. I like the dude's claw finger and the cords going into his arm.

Good concept but needs some reworking and refining. I do like the wire though...

Aaah, it already looks a lot better with the background.
The technique used on the pic is rather messy, it doesn't appeal to my eye much. What you should concentrate on is the shading, now there are only two levels of brightness on him, the parts that are totally lighted, and the parts that are totally in shadow. However, most forms on the pic are rounded (the guy's helmet, his arms and legs..) so gradually change when going from light to dark would bring out the forms better, be really careful with the direction of light, which parts should not get direct light on them.
As of now, the best shaded parts are the metallic (to look more metallic, add very bright highlights) addons on his arms, yet your messy lines make them look like rubber. Use the paintbrush at 100% or close opacity and paint some strong edges to define which parts are hit by light and which are not, use smaller opacity or airbrush to do the same on the round parts like his arms.
Also, if the character is a human being, the helmet is too short to fit a forehead in it :).
What bothers me is that the guy doesn't have a neck.
I liked the wire coming out of his hand cannon, there isn't too much detail on the pic so why lessen it even more?? Maybe just repaint it more carefully? I agree with the latest eye set not looking too good :)

...and don't use black to shade and to make shadows. Use darker values of the same color and darker values with little different hue. Try also adding a little bit complementary color to the shadow areas. |
