I'm new here,
so it kinda sounds ridiculous to talk about
3D modeling, since i'm assuming this board is for 2D art only..but if I am wrong..etc.
any hoo...(rambling) i want to create my cartoon pig into a 3D model.
anybody experienced with Rhino3D at all?
if so...please reply, whatever.

sorry, no rhino help for ya, man....but if you can get Maya i'll point you to where you needs to go. student copies are a few hundred bucks but are soooo well worth the cash. its an expensive app, but is in use at most major shops and will teach you all of the fundamentals. most 3d apps have the same basic philosophies when it comes to modeling though...its all aboutthe tools available and how available they are. thats why i stick with maya..... its all about pushing cv's where ou want them and loft, revolve, extrude......whatever else... or starting with a sphere and tweaking it from there. i like to start with a cube and model polygonally then turn it into a subdivision surface and get it all curvy and good. well, have fun. |

Rhino kicks ass.
Its a smooth modeling tool, I only use it to model and 3dstudio max to render. So if you have modeling questions then you can throw them at me.
My site has a bunch of rhino modeled stuff.

There are alot of good tut's out there too.

You shouldn't say you are better of with this and this app. It's up to the person to decide what method of modeling they like. Mirai- Doesn't Have Nurbs
Nendo- Same thing
Max- If you are planning to do Nurbs, forget about it.
Lightwave- No Nubs
Maya- If Nurbs is all you are looking for don't spend so much money on it, Rhino can do the same thing for so much less.
The only other alternative to Nurbs I would recommend is SolidThinking by Gestel.
Anyway Good luck.

Yes, I concede that MAX NURBS are crap in comparisson to Maya. Rhino is a great, cheap modeling program, especially at student prices. |

True Das]-[, but not everyone can afford to go out and buy most of the software mentioned, unless of course they pirate it but thats illegal right? :-) If a person is just learning or wanting to get into 3D then Animation Master is a great package to go out and BUY. It does'nt really matter what package you choose anyway, as it really is up to the person using it. You can pretty much model any thing in AM. I use LW at home and work, but learnt on AM, its basically all the same, just patience and perserverance.

Melkor - Yes I totally agree with you. Not everyone can afford such software as Maya, that is why I suggested Rhino. It is a very good piece of software and still on budget.
