Hey, long time lurker, first time poster. Anyway...
It's a self portrait, not really finished, probably never will be. But tell me what you think. Thanks!

hEy! Great picture! The lip, nose, and eyes are really great. I think you need to try to define the edges of everything a bit more and get a little bit more shading. (needed in the eyes as well.) But nonetheless, great picture. If you have time, work on the hair to try to get a few individual strands to stand out in the front. I don't like the background though |

Thanks for the quick reply, and I'm glad you like it. I know it's a little blurry, but i'm afraid of using hard-edged brushes with a mouse. I need a tablet! Maybe I'll work on it a little more. Later!

Sac;
I recommend not posting so much in your own thread, give it a chance to go somewhere on it's own first..
As to the picture, it's looking good. I think it could really benefit from some sharper edges (it all feels a little blurry atm), plus the absence of eyelashes (top and bottom) tends to make the face look a bit strange around the eyes.
Row.

Hey, nice pic, but unless your eyes are backlit (tee hee, cybernetic flashlight-eyes) they should have shadows from the eyelids and be a bit darker in color. And the hair could do with some hard edged brush strokes.

Worked on it a bit:
Tried to sharpen things up, better shading on the eyes, hair a little more definite. How does it look now? Any crits or suggestions welcome.

Hey sac, lookin pretty burly.
Is that a chicken pox scar on yer forehead?
Looks great though I'd mess with the contrast a little. The pupils are black but that's the only thing that dark. Looks like its on a different layer.
very cool though
Can't wait to see more stuff |

Whoa, I have that same scar next to my eyebrow.
I think it looks great. The one thing I would change would be to sharpen key areas, for example the nostrils, lip, chin, some of the eyelids. The rest would look fine as "blurry" as it is now; basically those areas on the face which protrude or are sharply defined need to be defined in the pic as well. Nice work. |

HAHA you just reminded me of something funny from figure drawing in college.
This one guy who was probably in his late 30's for his out of class project did a full size self portrait of himself in his underwear. It was so funny because he had drawn this big black mole on the side of his neck that drew in all your attention by being the darkest thing on the drawing.
Another funny thing is that it was drawn to scale so it was about 5 feet high 3 feet wide.
It was a good drawing to look at when wondering what not to do in a drawing.
He also made himself look a lot bigger in certain areas like bigger muscles and bigger *cough*. I did mention that the guy was in his underwear didn't I?
Nice portrait though I wouldn't use the same color through out the entire face. your face has many different colors on it. Different tones and shades. |
