This is a bit faster pic, started in the evening and finished before sunrise :)
Here's what i started with:
Then continued to blow the size up to 2000xsomething and started painting in the details... really wasn't sure what to do with the house so the last thing was to slap another wall up, punch the ceiling broken and put a table in the middle.

Thanks for posting nature pictures. It is nice to see some artwork that doesn't fall into the warrior/chick/robot category.

Wow, nice stuff. I like the handling of the brush all along the right side of the image and the lighting in the house. The broken roof was a nice touch, too. Keep up the good work.

You'd expect more replies to something this good. Maybe most of the people on this forum don't really appreciate this kind of thing? |

anoah: I noticed the subject has to have something to do with the number of replies after I posted some of my bird pics.
About 2 of the replies commented the pics :):)
I understand that people won't comment much on something they're not interested in, but it sucks when you'd need some critique badly yet there's no one willing to give any...
(Woops, the 2 big trees on the left don't cast any shadow on the house, hehe)
This time it's pretty safe to say I'm gonna get some sleep and not paint all night, since I already did that :Q G'night!

Well, on the subject of posts getting replies I seem to notice that if you put 'sexy', 'female', 'nude', etc. in your subject that it'll get bumped for much longer and thus get more replies. Can we say 'duh', hehe. It's a shame that others that need some help and critque only get a few replies from the people that tend to look into every single thread (like me lately). It's a shame that everybody doesn't have the time to look and reply on every thread, too, but that's not anybody's fault. I'm just glad that at least this place exists as a great forum for picking up lots of hints, tips, experiences and so on, regardless of how much specific help I get on any piece I decide to post.
Anyway, I have to go edit my thread topic to "SEXY, NUDE FEMALE: Take a peek"...

I see your point about the trees. It might be a pain to put the shadow in
criticism
The tree on the left jumps out as weird. I think it might be the fact that the the trunks and branches seems to get thicker at the top, while tree limbs should always get thinner.
(A quick thing I tried right on the spot)
I tried setting the tool to pressure, and trying to vary the thickness through that. It worked for the most part, but I still needed to use the eraser a little.
I'm always looking forward to your paintings.

Geck, man...!
You painted very nice picture. I agree with people that it's really nice that we have artists here who want to draw anything else but warrior stuff and something like that.
Oh... and now I see your point on this pic from what we talked about. This plays well. I thought that you are going to paint some larger views.
How long it took? Did you paint it over the last night?
Keep up the interesting and exiting nature! Cheers,

Very nice work Gecko! [stares into pic] There must be a reptile of some kind in there somewhere... hmm...
I wondered what it would be like to do some foreground bushes on a seperate layer, do a gaussian blur and put them on top as though they were out of focus and the viewer was concentrating on the house. |

Wow, GREAT pic!
Really like the colours, and all the detail you put in there.
You could lighten up those dark parts a bit.
I guess light is coming from the left. How about putting that hole in the left part of the ceiling and letting the light penetrate the house. I think that could add a lot to the atmosphere. Thaks for reading anyway. |

Did some more work on the pic:
After flattening the whole image, I resized the pic to 4000xsomething and went to work on the details of the house, and added the missing shadow on the house. I wasn't completely happy with the forest either, so I loaded up Painter and lightened things up a bit.. blended some of the colors as well.
ceeenda: Sorry I let you down with the missing reptile... now I have to do a Special Edition pic for you. :]
About the gauss blur, I really hate it whenever it's used in objects that are in the foreground. It might give a photographic effect, but that's copying a flaw from other medium, in which I don't see much point :)
aNoah: you're right about the trees, I thickened the trunk just a bit so it wouldn't stand out so much. The branches, the same mistake but it doesn't look bad in my eyes so I let them be.
Kachimba: I think I should've done that in the first place (the hole in the ceiling), it would most probably look much better, not sure if I want to touch the pic anymore though :I.
Yourmom: yeah one night. Another hour today.

Ahh, it looks very nice. Is this the maximum res?... I wanna make it my wallpaper for a while if you don't mind
So, aghm, yeah if you can post a higher res image and sign it... that would be great.
Thanks

that's nice, gecko. i like the colors and how you did the cast shadows. something that throws me off a little is the perspective on the house. the house seems distoreted (maybe it's supposed to be?) yet, the bridge is nice and straight. maybe it's just preference. |

Hey Gecko, nice work man. I was going to comment on the fact that in the first pick the closest beam on the left looked like it was floating, but you fixed that.
Again, nice job. |

Sorry for not replying earlier man i never saw this post. All i can say is WOW! I love seeing the process of how things are done. I
personnaly think that's more interesting than the final picture.
I particularly like the steps and how they fade out. wonderful! |
