I'm a sucker for some organization (good suggestion Liquid) This image was inspired by the hypnotic dancing that goes on at most goth clubs, and of course the Halloween mood, that's in the air.
What kinda feeling do you get when looking at this?? What would you do to make the image more ominous, etc.??

Pretty disturbing looking. Looks to me like a girl trapped in perpetual discomfort...
The only thing I think you might want to do is this:
1. lighten the overall background just a bit, so that chains do not blend into it as much.
2. Make a bit more of an atmospheric effect, such as lightening the chains that are further from us, and thus creating a bit more depth.
3. Put some really big chain really upclose 'framing' the composition. That's for two reasons: 1. It will help your composition and push depth; 2. More importantly, it will pull the camera 'closer' to the picture, because it will seem more like the observer is trapped in this jungle of chains with her.
4. I wouldn't light the chains from the bottom left. Since that lightsource is fairly bright it pushes the focus away from her. I would have her be pretty much the sole source of 'lighting', which would hopefully focus the entire pic around her.
I hope that helps in some ways... Great pic tho!

that was exactly what I was looking for and your points are very helpful.
1. I did want it that way, I wanted the viewer to be unsure of what was there, however, I will consider it.
2. I was so involved with finishing it that I simply missed illustrating the depth, good catch, I will revise it.
3. Another good point.
4. Again, I didn't even consider that, yet another good catch
I kind of rushed this, cause I wasn't sure I was achieving what I wanted, but your initial comment has reinspired me, thanks Liquid, I appreciate it, and again, good idea on the naming conventions. It's tough for me to get to the forum as much as I would prefer, so when things are more focused, it's definitely a time saver

I think I saw this girl at QXT's. She was really getting down.
It's very had to dance though with all of those chains hitting you in the head. I think that is why she is making that face of pain.
But on a serious note I like the color and mood. I've always loved dark moody art work. Especially and only if it is rendered with nice technique and high level of skill.
It kind of reminds me of this guy I used to know from art schools work. I think he joined the army or something.
My only criticism is that its a little hard to tell what she is doing and I would change the composition to have a bigger figure and not so many chains. |

Shadowman - great game so you go to QXT's that's a pretty cool club. Maybe I've seen you there before. Thanks for the comments. Isn't that a good thing that it's not so literal as to what the girl is doing, doesn't that help to add to a viewers disturbing feeling???
Miconious - exactly what I wanted the viewer to feel, thanks !!!
Affected - since, I've never seen an apparition, I figured that one might have the translucency for that to happen (look at me I'm theorizing about a ghost) but I figured maybe the character might go in and out of a solid and translucent state, sort of like a light switch going on and off, who knows??? but I'm glad you picked up on that, I wasn't sure if it would come across.
thanks for the comments everyone

forgot one thing does the image have a realistic enough feel to it, or does it look fake?
