I know it's too early to judge, but the split kijnda makes me not feel at home anymore ...
Hmm ... I know it was meant as a solution to all the chaos before, but, hmmm ... I dunno ... I hope this doesn't kill the forum, my favourite net-place, off for good. Even though the splits are very well chosen ... rant rant ... sorry ...

*hugs a loki*
It's a little weird, but it's only a couple of clicks different right? What would an alternate solution be?
I think everyone feels it's a bit awkward at the moment but the kinks will work themselves out. No worries Loki!

I think it would have died if it hadn't happened. Something can grow only so big, until it must be split. Or else people go to a place that had the volume of postings that they could keep up with and where topics are more focused.
I also suggest that if it really does seem awkward and there is an alternate solution staring you in the face, speak up, or forever hold your peace

Hey Loki, what's up with you man? You hiding from me or the rest of us? Are you pretending to be busy or something? Quitting your job and going back into TRSI doing freeware demos for Atari ST? Get your ass back in here. =)
Oh, and I wrote a special message in a picture I posted recently... I thought it would get you to post, but I was wrong. |

One thing the split has shown is the amount of posting that is going on. Its been what.. about 4 days and we are already approaching 2000 posts. I just can't keep up anymore.

if it's brought something, then it's these random people signing up just to attack me.
they attack me -> i attack them -> yadda dadda.
why they attack me? because they've only read my posts in the last ~2 weeks when everyone has been on my fucking back about things. why? cause they don't know when to stop, and i sure as fuck will not leave a fight unresolved. thus it goes on.
get the fuck out of my face, people, it's just not worth it. as of late quite a few people have been bigger dicks towards me than i have been in total, and then they wonder why i'm such a dick to people. DUH.

If I'm one of those dicks, faust, don't think of it that way. I think you're posts are amusing but to let some go unchallenged is . . . unacceptable

exactly, and then people whine about fights going on always.
"stop and i'll stop." applies.

faustgfx, here's my unsolicited impression of you, provided to you in a benign attempt to try to help you understand why certain facets of your 'interpersonal' skills don't work.
I think you can't let most threads go by without a comment because if anything enters you mind after reading something, you feel compelled to post a response.
I think you often post simply to get a reaction, and you enjoy the ensuing conflict (I admit that I do this on controversial threads too)
I think you enter each new thread with a slightly negatively skewed perspective, and through this filter you naturally don't respond the way most others do. This is supported by the fact that when you see some art that you actually think is well done, you drop your guard and actually respond with praise. The fact that your praise is usually limited to a three letter word "dig" (at least since I've been here) it makes me think that you don't enjoy giving too much praise. You are probably like me, and unbalanced criticism over praise seems more natural to you because of the way you were raised? So praise doesn't really make you feel any better about your work so it feels corny to give a lot of it to someone else? If not, everyone knows a little more about me
I hope you don't see this as an attack. Feel free to spill your guts about what you think of me.

naw, when i say dig, it just means i like it, and if i really see something that's worthy of mentioning about and hasn't been mentioned before, i do so. it's difficult for me to critique drawings/paintings (let's take humans as an example) since i'm pretty hopeless in that myself. alot of the stuff that goes on in here is just that, "painting". so i just state out that i like it.
i can't really say yay or nay to the "i like when people say they like my work" thing, cause i very rarely post any Big Serious(tm) drawings. my view on the forum went down pretty hardcore when this just got me an assload of "you gay faggot!1!1 lamur!1!!" (to exaggerate a bit. not too much though..) even though it's the first and last picture i've posted here that has some emotion, alot of effort and trying, and meaning to it. if i want critique, i ask for it and expect it, but often i don't since there's really no point in going straight to the core of the thing with critique about a 10 minute doodle.
it does not hurt me or anything to give praise or whatever or mention that i like osmething. why should it? i'm not THAT big of a dick yet.
i don't enjoy the ensuing conflict at all, since the quality and sort of the text is rather questionable. i rarely have any motive such as "cause chaos" "piss Bob X off" or whatever when i just roam through all of the new posts on that given day and post "dig" or "<critique>" or "<random crap that fits the spot>"
example, if a fight occurs, i go at it for some time, but it soon begins just to amuse me, unless it goes to personal things, and in both cases, i do try to stop it. "stop and i'll stop" should be the simplest hint ever, but no..
ah yadda dadda ramble. too lazy/tired to type more now.

just trying to be helpful:
for those who can check the forum daily, bookmark it using the "today's active topics" link -> http://www.sijun.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?action=getdaily
jan 5 was the first one that went over 1 page, and only just.
unfortunately, it doesn't tell you who posted the topic originally... so you can't use your ignore list (can the setting be changed to show it though? - that would be Good.)
edit: wrong sig

see, you're a nice guy when you sit and describe why you post what you do But one thing I'm sure everyone has noticed, is that on any board, someone gets pinned as the character that you've been pinned here on sijun. It's just whoever is the most extreme or 'coarse' begins to play that role in people's eyes and then that person is stuck with that 'label' until either they try to change and make people think they're no more extreme than the next guy, or a more extreme guy comes along. I've seen far more vehement arguers who have usually _completely baseless_ arguments on other boards.
Anyhoo, I'm tired of typing too, and I think I'm just plain tired - I think I should grab a few.

heh. the funniest thing is, even if i was chosen as a moderator, i'd still not go in the "AHA! FIRST ONE WHO DISAGREES WITH ME! *DELETE*" mode, but let the others do it if needed, and could be a decent moderator.
too bad 95% of the forum would never vote for me :p
(i know i wouldn't vote for me.)

things seem to be going quite smooth. except for a few eevil arguments, everything is in order. the majority of people are posting in the right places. choosing sysops can be hard b/c they can begin to think they are gods.

yeah loki, I have the exact same feeling.. Each time I log in I don't exactly know what I want to see... sketches... no not this time... random musings.. nope... finished stuff... yeah that'll be it.. And then I go to that section seeing all that great stuff that is posted there and totally miss out on the sketches/unfinished stuff which is a shame... At least in the 'old' days you could stumple into a thread that had some nice ideas going but now most of the times I don't even go near sketches... :/
One thing though, I do think that people so far has been great to put posts where it belongs which is pretty cool and actually why the forum was split up in three categories. Maybe we just need some additional time settling inn and accepting this as the new 'home'...
