Ok, there was a thread a few days ago with an protomecha pic and some line art. Here is the beginning of my attempt. about 2-2 1/2 hours of work!

I"m not usually really concerned about lighting but this time I tried to be a bit more careful!

here is a detail of the pic.

here is the full pic with a temporary background! This pic is about 50%.

well coments are really welcome and any ideas as to improve it! Thanks!

I wish I had balance like her :|

Nothing important or even pay attention to...but it might be better if the background worked with her pose

you should probably mention that Francis drew it....
I think it would be a better learning experience if you did your own line art. But maybe you were just experimenting with color.

Francis kinda requested they color his pic Jenn. He wants to see what other's come up with, but I think he was thinking more along the lines of style.

Well that's why I posted it anyways! He did ask if people would take a stab at it! I thought what the hey!

Sorry for not clerifying the fact that it was Francis's LINE ART that I was coloring.

And for those of you who are wanting me to use the original colours I'll pass! I like my colour set a little nicer! hey I'm not even a fan. Just liked the pic and thought the chalange would be nice!

Oh, and I do do my own line work thank you very much!

BTW: Guy, I like your version too! got to love the variation in styles!

Vardelith:

hi!

when you want to decide for the lighting situation on an object you paint you should be aware that the surrounding has a very important role in there.

You drew a desert for background, this means that there will be a lot of light reflected from the desert sand and thrown back on the figure.. this light would lighten up the backside there a bit, maybe even change its color tone-

looks to me like you did that in painter. I don't know painter very well but I guess it would be possible to lower the opacity of the brush to get a bit more flow from one tone to the other.

Well.. take what I said with care however because I am not a professional (not even close to it)-

Hmm.... Sorry Nex for the background I threw it in as a quick after thought to have something there before I posted it! I'll remove it and make something a little more original and proper for the pic.

As for the where I did the coloring for it... that was a PS my man. I was experimenting with some different ways of applying color quickly to an area while still doing the lights and darks.

Are you talking about the central part of the upper chest area that is basically a simple curve that surrounds the main chest protrusion? if so, I personally felt it looked better as a match with the rest of the body armor!

I'm thinking if you are going to make that many changes to the character then you should just be drawing and painting your own creation.

I think the first ones need a bit of blurring. hey are a bit choppy..if you know what i mean. it would give it more of a metalic finish sorta. a smooth shiny surface
