Did this as a practise piece for a larger painting I'm gonna do with acryls at school... I'm happy with it but it'd be great if you told me anything that bugs your eye.
Can you actually recognize what that thing is lying on the snow?

The black lines to the left of the birds are kind of vague. I had to study them for awhile before I realized it was a little tree. Looks like grooves in the ground or something. Other than that, it looks great. |

Just showed the pic to my dad, and he immediately named about a dozen idiotic anatomic mistakes going on. Hmm. This happens when you work without reference. So I reworked most of the bird.
Tinusch: Thanks. I'm gonna rework the branches as well, thought they were fine but I guess not then :)
Yourmum: Yeah, an Intuos 9x12.
Thanks for the feedback, I'll repaint most of the whole thing and try and get some depth into it. Stronger shading..
And I go to the "Helsingin kuvataidelukio".
Now that I think of it, the new pose needs another hawk fighting for the meal.
I'll be updating this thread with new pics...

Detail of the pic:
Thought it might look better without the hawk/hawks.

If you want to add more shadows you have to make it a late afternoon because the light on that time of day does'nt really cast any dark shadows because of the sun reflecting in the snow, so if its daytime keep the shadows light.
But anyways, i think that the first pic is the best one, just fix the anatomic on the bird and a bit more detail on the surroundings.
Maybe some blood coming out from the dead bird would look cool?

Hmmm. What do you mean by that adding shadows? I think the lighting is alright as it is, though if I'm wrong please point it out :].
I like the first pic too, but by just fixing the anatomic mistakes you are asking a total repaint. That's pretty much what I did on the second pic although I'm not too happy with the pose.
Anyway, once again I've shocked the forum by blatantly lying that I was gonna sleep instead painting all night.

That's a cardinal, right? Shouldn't it be more of a crimson, than a pale pink? Otherwise, I think it looks good!

Hi, Geck!
I like this one a lot! Do you use WACOM or soemthing? *cant remember...sorry* Your values look nice but if I were you I would paint that corpse on the ground more effective... change shades or even colors a bit. Hmm... i think that your composition is good but pic could be more deeper or a little more stronger on values and dimensional case. :P Now it looks a bit flat.. not so much but.. but.. think these, man. This is cool pic though.. keep up scary BIRDS.
Ps. What school do you go? :P

how'd the bird die? isn't there supposed to be blood?
just wondering how'd it end up ... sleeping in that position |
