I am new to these boards but not to art although I have made the transition to digital art last year. I just wanted to say hello and post my latest work in progress.
I have used the dodge and burn tool (I have heard this is a bad idea) on the creature but I avoided it with the accessories.
I sketch my images with pencil then scan them. I then use a mouse to paint it.
I know, I knowe I should get a Wacom tablet.

Welcome to the forum RobT, like your work. Was there any inspiration from the Lizardman in SoulCalibur?

Thank you. This is straight from my head. It's my attempt at amalgamation of a human, dinosaur and lizard.

Thanks. The background was done intentionally blurry because this creature will be appearing in different places and scenes throughout a game. I decided to give it a generic background. The whole image will be shrunken down about 50% to be used in the game. That should sharpen it up a little.

Nice. Kind of reminds me of Steve Goad's work. My main suggestions would be:

1) Go in with a hard-edges brush and refine the whole thing. Add in details and sharpen the edges with hard brushes, not soft ones.

2) The bottom of his fingers seem to be missing. There should be some of the fingers visible as they curl underneath the handle of the sword.

3) The tail is... partially missing. Kind of looks like you originally did this on a solid background, and placed it over the new background but encountered some transparency problems.

I think you should definitely keep working on this pic, because it's looking really good. Try those 3 things, mainly the first one. Keep refining until it looks crisper.

Thanks for the tips. I will be using some of what you suggested. This is only a work in progress at this point. I am going to be adding tails rings to the tail that is why it looks incomplete. I will also be zooming in there to add some more detail.
