My oppinion on counter-strike:

This has nothing to do with the graphics, animations or sounds of counter-strike, its simply my oppinion on the gameplay... How it used to be good, and then gotten worse and worse and now to the point that I can't even play for 25 minutes without getting sick of it.

P.S. Have you played counter-strike before, for a long while, and now moved on? What games are you playing now? I can't find anything to replace my urges.

Good question to ask since I just stopped playing after a two hour training session with my clanmates.
Cs 1.0 sucks ass, it's slow as hell and I takes for ever to connect. But still, it's a great game and especially with our own server and admin-rights, I can play the game like it's supposed to be played. And kick&ban anyone who doesn't.

CS 1.0 r0x0rZ, except for the new bullshit models and their crappy animation (typically valve! fat blocky guys with cartoonish skins, weapons at waist-level and would-be-hilarious-if-not-so-shitty animations).

The new weapons dont add anything to the game, except that the UMP looks badass and has a niftee sound with EAX & hedphones, the 550 is bullshit and modeled terribly, the FN was a promising idea but terribly executed and modeled way too small.

In short : bring back 7.1 or 5.2 its just not worth it.

I dont really play anything other, but im anxiously awaiting the release of Project IGI. Damn that babys gonna kick ass

I think it all went back when the new netcode hit, how bout you guys? The gameplay was all downhill from there.

I'm currently anticipating Ultima Online 2 and Team Fortress 2, I'll buy either as soon as they come out (some of the very few games that I 'buy'). WarCraft 3 can't be bad either.

Theoretically speaking, TF2 would own. Problem is theyve delayed it AGAIN, for some new goodie they want in that, AGAIN, wil revolutionize mplayer. All these delays will make the game better, but also more dated. If they dont get it out before mid-summer 2001, theyre fucked. They might as well start from scratch with a new engine.

Um, they are, that is why it is delayed.

Well I don't know if you heard about Goose, but he thought the same thing and said he is probably going to release 1.1 with old models and animation.

I don't think so, I like the netcode, granted it was weird at first, but it does help on ping when I was on 56k. Now I got cable, so I don't really notice.

Don't know where you heard that. Pre-order's are set at April 29, 2001 and 80% of this delay is this new engine and voice communication.

Spitfire,

I have about 6-8 TF sites I visit bi-daily.
www.teamfortresscentral.com <- Well don't visit, update it
www.tf2source.com www.tf2bunker.com www.fortresscenter.com www.tf2-web.com

Those are just the big dogs, there are little geocities dogs that run around too, but I check those most often. In tf2source.com there is a technology section that tells you all about the new engine (so far), valve won't release too much about it though

TF2bunker's Rumor Control states that the "new engine" for TF2 is not confirmed by Valve. So there

That is old then...there is no way that the half-life engine can handle the voice communication that they wish to do with it. Plus they have said numerous times that they scrapped that engine. That is what I heard anyway.

all the half-life engine is, is a modified quake (1) engine. tf2 origionally was going to use a modified ver. of the halflife engine, but reality stepped in and they are now using a completely different engine.

the quake engine is old, damn old. im begining to think game companies prefer the outdated engines because the production time is cut down...by way of existing or modified code, low resolution graphics, and low polycount modeling. i would expect that game companies will start using a layering technique as technology advances further; instead of building a game from scratch, they will start to build off of allready existing technology in a factory line process. im guessing as technology advances with larger and larger leaps, games will advance with much smaller ones.

first off, they used modified Quake 2 engine i believe, Second off, using 'layering' techniques would be just as giving out the whole source of the game to whoever wants it, therefore there will be no profit. Until we got replicator machines like in StarTrek and can replicate any miniral or object, we're stuck with those greedy money leeching bastards

half-life is a quake one based game. the engine was heavily modified something like 70% of its code was rewritten.
half-life started development in 1996
quake was released in 1996
halflife was released in 1998
quake 2 was released in 1998

i never said source code would be free, i just said i believe people will begin to build off of all ready existing technology (instead of trying to build a brand new stateoftheart game engine.)

not all game companies make a brand new engine everytime they make a new game, instead they license the engines from a different party. for example: http://www.idsoftware.com/corporate/idtech/
quake 1:$10,000
quake 2:$125,000
quake 3:$300,000

team fortress 2 for example was going to be run on a modified half-life engine; by modifying an existing engine they cut down production time trying to build an entire brand new game engine.

ghharr i coulda swore that they wrote that HL was gonna be released on modified Q2 engine, but then shizo corrected me, and so its 2 vs 1 and i better go hide in the corner in shame

(and I call myself a HL fan... err used to)

anyways but think about it, someone has to start off the source for the other companies to work on, and that person isn't gonna give it away for free, and even if he does, (err they) the next person that adds on to it, he/she/they/them whatever wont give that away for free either

WE NEED DAMNED REPLICATORS I TELLS JA!

Hehe. Though i like what Valve programmers did. You can say it's based on any engine, but that they rewrote 70% of their own (if not more) 'tis true.. For example if you played HL you wouldn't know there was some of Q1 in it (there are merely two things i can point out, and not even sure about). But if you played Kingpin, you'd know it was basically Q2 engine, with a FEW things added that concern lightning, textures, and models.
But too many things from Q2 so ye..
