I think by starting with saying. this is what most people are asking !!! how ? when? with what?

I have a Wacom Graphire tablet. i can draw and shade on paper. i never Painted before in my life except a little fooling around. so by shading colours comes i am useless. How do U guys start a Painting in What ever program u use .from scratch to finish. I think that this can be a interresting thread.

Pls tell me. what i try to do is just fool around on a black background and then use the Dodge and Burn tools? are there other methods that work better? how can i learn to shade picture perfect?? where do i learn this.. i can't buy alot of books like u guys so if you can show me to a nice tutorial except Dhabih's then i will be happy and gratefull and i am sure the people around me that are newbies to digital art aswell
this is a picture that i drew right now ... check it out maybe add some critiques with it pls modify it and email it to me overlay it with a layer with some corrections pls

You would probably do best to stick with the airbrush (or paintbrush, whichever flips your dongle), and hard brushes. Blurryness-B-Gone!

ok, I dont have a wacom....but this is what I've learned from people who do have them and so forth.

dont live by dodge/burn. they'll eventually become a crutch for you.

as far as coloring, start out light and make it darker where needed. I'm currently doing this with colored pencils because I'm horrible with color values and where-to-shade.

I could be wrong, but look at any of the tutorials Fred or Spooge have made. They're all worth learning and will help you.

Also, something I've heard people talk about is make things at a larger resolution and then reduce the size of them.

I hope this helps. Might not be a good idea listening to me though, I could have botched something.

I think most guys do it the way FREDDIO shows it in the 'Gladiator' thread, and how craig does it in the tutorial.

FREDDIO: http://www.geocities.com/hugh1984/Imageprogression.jpg

CRAIG: http://www.goodbrush.com/hirez_pgs/process/painting_lessons/suit/suit.htm

The basic idea being that you block in your 'basic' shapes with the rough colors (about a midtone of that hue) and then work in lights and darks as you continue to add detail and tighten the painting up.

At least that is the techinque I use.

Hope it helps.
