Here's a painting I did in about an hour - with about half my time spent on the face, the other half on the hand. As hard as I tried, I couldn't convince Mr. Walken to fly to Milwaukee to pose for me, so I had to settle for photo reference.
So. Any comments/critiques? |

Well, i really like it.
I mean the shadowing job is very nice and the face looks really good. I personally really like the hair. The eye and the hand look petty good also. The only thing i would say that bugs me a bit is the nose and that it kinda looks rough at some places, but its not anything dramatic, just some minor details..
Overall, a very nice painting so far !
keep up the nice work

CHRISTOPHER WALKEN! T'IS EVIL! EVIL I SAY!
Damn i love that d00d. He's the most evil actor in the world. Great pic too, doesnt completely look like him, but it captures the atmosphere that surrounds him perfectly. Perhaps a bit more detail? I really like the blueish duotone but perhaps you could give his hand a bit more contrast. It looks like his fingers are molten together |

waylon: Nice pic. I agree generally with Seph|roth. I like shadowing but nose looks a bit flat - as was said. Hmm. If I were you I would show the nails too because the whole is quite detailed, too. I dunno. Just my opinion. Oh.. the eye is really good. Like it so much.

Thanks for the replies! Now that I've had a night to sit on it, I can really see the problems you guys pointed out. I'll definitely have a go at fixing his nose, and smoothing out some of the muddiness. The reason his hand has so little contrast is because the light is hitting it almost directly on, and that's how it looked in the source pic. But yeah, it doesn't look quite right in my version. I'll try brightening up the highlights - I think that'll solve the problem. Anyway, thanks for the kind words! |

I think Mr Walkin would love this. You have captured the spirit of this great actor and I wasn't looking for any faults. It's damn good. Well done.

Ok, here it is, the finished version. For all the work I put into it, I only like it slightly better than my first revision. It's more polished and true to the original photo, but at the same time, the first one had a lot more energy. What do you guys think?
Incidentally... I had a lot of trouble with the wrinkles on his forehead, and at this point I think they only look "passable". Any advice?
