Ok all you hardcore low-poly modelers out there, quick question which would make my job a LOT easier. Is there a way to align one face to another (ie make the faces coplanar) without changing the alignment of the "source" face? There's the "Make Planar" button, but that changes all of the selected faces' orientations, which isn't what I need.

Any help would be appreciated!

Waylon,

Hmm good question. I don't think I have an answer for you.

If that face is aligned to one of the axis planes, than that's not too hard, but I'll assume it's in an arbitrary axis plane, in which case it becomes a little touchy.

Something you might try is to create a local grid aligned to that face and snap the other verts to it. Hmm...

Or you could copy the face, 3d scale it, and edge divide til you get what you need, then weld the verts back.

Good luck! =)

Well, what I've been doing so far is just playing with vertices until the faces line up. Not THAT hard to do if they're right next to each other, since all you have to do is move one vertex, and if the view is in facet mode, you can tell pretty easily when you've got it right.

There's a "normal align" command in one of the menu bars that SOUNDS like it's what I want, but I can't figure out how it works.

I haven't gotten "normal align" to work in the sub-object mode really...you need to have the object selected, then click on the normal on it you want to move and then the normal you want to move to. That make sense? I just use the regular snap tool for moving most anything like that I need...

Yeah, "normal align" turned out to be pretty much useless. I almost convinced one of my co-workers to write a plug-in to do this for me, but it turned out to be way too much trouble. Still, I'm getting a lot of practice aligning vertices.
