Hey, I'm new to this forum and does it suprise anyone that I'm opening up with a question? I'm considering Corel Draw(9 ithink)and photoshop but only have the funds for one program. I've seen outstanding work with photoshop, but have heard it said "corel Draw is still the best". I'm a painter and have used many forms of media, and looking over some of the artwork on this site has inspired me to try computer. However, with limited funds I have to decide which program to purchace, first. So pros and cons are what I need to hear from anyone who's used Corel Draw.
Thanx |

I find Corel Draw to be imposible to use for a few simple reasons. When in Photoshop I use a wacom which gives pressure sensitivity, so I can get varying opacities. I can use Alt+ click to change the paintbrush into an eye dropper momentarily which lets me select a colour from the canvas. this way I can blend colours by overlaying with different opacity and then selecting the result quickly. you have to change to the eye dropper tool in Photo paint (the painting portion of Corel Draw) which take a bit more time. Seeing as I do this hundreds of times for every picture I paint, the changeing requred in Photopaint gets very annoying and time consuming. Other than that I have found Corel draw to be much slower on my machine which may be to do with other factors but I can tell you that I have both PShop 5.5 and Corel Draw 9 and I haven't ever compleated a pic in CD. I am interested in Painter 6 and plan to purchase it in the future but the interface for earlier versions is a nightmare IMHO.
If Corel fixed the problem mentiond then I would probably use thier app. it has better brushes and features than PS.
I just find that Photoshop is the easiest to understand the interface is more intuative.
It is unfortunatly the most expensive of the available options. |
