Check out this car done by Craig Mullins. have a look at what makes it shiny.
Also check out the lessons on www.goodbrush.com there are some tips on how to draw reflections which I think is what you're after. the trick is the contrast between soft gradients and hard edges. the surface is reflecting it's surroundings. this is usuialy a horizon which has a hard edge where the sky meets the ground.
you are using too much soft brush. ditch the airbrush. It's making everthing soft and fuzzy.
Hope this helps

The top piccy looks interesting. I guess the thing that really jumped out at me was the thickness of the lines in the coat. hmm... on second thought, probably does work ok.
It's kinda difficult to comment on. I guess one thing is that you have hair and the dudes coat blowing in the wind, yet the grass in the background looks stiff up right. Only a petty thing.
Probably best to work some more on the image and then repost as at the moment, it's difficult to make comments as most things at this point in time can be hiden by the style (ie huge thick lines make it difficult to tell if anatomy in one part is wrong).
I guess the neck of the coat comes into the character a bit too far tending to suggest that with broad shoulders, his chest muscles are really flat and doesn't seem to work properly.
