http://www.metavisuals.com

I'm a senior in high-school, and am about to apply to CalArts to go to college. I am really looking forward to it, cause I want to pursue animating either traditionally or digitally. But I also want to learn how to paint, hopefully be a matte painter. Basically my goal, the ultimate dream would be to work for ILM cause they have all that and produce some sweet movies.

Back to the college thing, if you have a spare moment, can you look over my portfolio? I'm wondering if I need to lose some stuff, or work on adding more of something. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

(Sorry netscape users, but I made it in Dreamweaver, and am working on the compatibility issues. It's best viewed at 800 x 600 and IE 4.x or above.

Thank you,
Jensen

I visited the portfolio, but the netscape compability issues really made it a bitch to navigate. I couldn't bother staying long, because the layout took long to load, and text was overlapping each other so I really couldn't read what you had to say, either.

I visited the 2d gallery, and I think you should make the thumbnails smaller and accessible with less scrolling. It took me some time to even notice they were thumbnails because I thought the squares were just a repeating pattern flowing down the side of the page.

I took a look at the watto pic, and it wasn't that bad at all, just that when I opened it, I had to load more of the layout, when I just wanted to see the pic itself. This pisses most of us modem users off, and so ended my visit to your page.

My suggestions are as follows:

1. Make all of the layout pictures load when user first enters the site, so he/she won't have to load a new set of green images whenever he/she enters another part of the site.

2. Do not publish the site if it does not work properly on all of the most popular browsers! You won't get away with it by saying "hey, I know it doesn't work with your favorite browser, visit anyway, please".

3. Reorganize the gallery pages with thumbnails, they don't have to be big, they don't have to have any decoration on them, that's not what they're for. Don't make people scroll down for pages to see the bottom thumbs. Micke, for example, has a good thumbnail gallery, go take a look.

People need an easy access to your pics, which, IMHO, right now is not available. I'll comment your art when this changes. :)

thank you Gecko....really.

I need people to tell me things that I might overlook. And I will tell you when I make those changes so you can look 'freely' at my work.
