Despite the large file size, I really like
it a lot. It is very nice. I love how some
of the gold is chipped away or whatever.

So am I the only one that's not a big fan of
the tiny scrolling window at the bottom now?
Especially when critiquing art? I liked it
much better when the whole window scrolled.

Sorry Snake, I didn't mean to stray from the
topic, but nice image!

By the way, howd you make it? Photoshop or what?

Hey - that's really good for 2d, but it just BEGS to be done in 3d.

Nice work!

I'd have to disagree with you there newt. Done in 2D it shows skill in surface treatement, lighting and creating the illusion of form/depth, whereas if it were rendered in 3d it would be just another crappy 3D logo like all the other crappy 3d logos we see all the time.

Sometimes fake 3d is the best 3d

Excuse the large filesize. I am simply allergic to jpg artifacts, as tiny they might be, I still find a way to see them It's like being obsessed with germs. Anyway.

thedude: This image has been done entirely in Photoshop with my Wacom tablet.. I used guidelines I drew on other layers to see where the light would come from and did the light spots/shadows consequently.

spitfire: It's for the introduction to a demoparty report I'm working on.. Coma2 was held in Montreal September 1st and 2nd. We're gonna display photos, results, and other miscellaneous/funny things that happened during that party.

Newt: The only reason one might want to construct this in 3D would be to animate it

It looks great Snake Grunger!

Thats a really nice logo.. and I think if it were in 3d it would loose some of its character. Even tho the lighting might not as exact as it would be in a 3d proggie, well, its small errors that bring the best out in some pictures. I like this one a lot.

I think maybe you ppl are confusing dodgey 3D with 3D done well. If this was done well in 3D it would have every bit as much character as it did in 2D. My opinion.

Had it been done in 3DSMax, for example, I wouldn't've been able to do that kind of shading on the letters, since, well, it's somewhat unrealistic The shading is not the same on each letter, surface varies from plastic->metal->suede

Perhaps, but what about picking the best tool for the job? 3d does 3d best!

Anyway - I know this forum is a little biased towards 2d art over 3d. S'Ok

I love it all the same.

Hey, that turned out nice! I really like the cracked coating... makes it look like candy! Mmm, candy. Coma 2 - melts in your mouth, not in your hand.

So when's the party report going to be out?

(Oh yeah, and shouldn't there be a "2" somewhere in that logo? )

Its a nice pic the only thing I dont like is the fact that there seem to be light sources all over the place yet only casting shadows from certain directions, just seems a little odd to me I also think that the 'O' should be a little bit bigger, otherwise cool pic, Why is FROST helping you with this pic and exactly how much did he do?

A little game of revenge, eh? There are three light sources:

1) One far away in the top-left corner, the one which gives the letters their shiny glow. Note that all the letters have the same light scheme.
2) One far away in the top-center-back, to the the 3D extrude of the letters a light and shadow.
3) One just under the letters in blue to give the effect that the 2 is glowing (refer to full-size pic for this).

What Frost did? I showed him an earlier version and he gave me pointers onto how to make it better: light, color, shape, perspective, etc.. But he did not touch one single pixel of that image, I did all the work. But he had the ideas. So he's as much to credit as I am.
