I didnt want to.. but it was too tasty NOT to post :)
Check yo benchmarks.. P4 1.5GHz with RAMBUS (super expensive ram) and T-Bird 1.4GHz (overclocked?) with regular SDRAM (not the new DDR).

Sweetness.. ehh my Duron 850 somehwere on the bottom :) gotta get a new chip and put it to work at 1GHz yet!

I for one was not impressed at all, except when it came to memory bandwidth.
Its obvious that the CPU sucks at every thing but Quake3, what I want to see now is some good Photoshop benchmarks. With memory running that fast it may be of some value to the Photoshop community.

Snakebyte.. i especially noticed RAMBUS for p4 and regular SDRAM for t-bird.
The new DDR ram that AMD760 chipset supports is gonna Rox0rz!! (they use DDR ram for later GeForce2's you hear?).
DDR Is really fast and takes advantage of AMD double FSB feature. Although it might not be faster than RAMBUS, it'll sure be 1000 times less expensive

Yes, DDR is good and will be cheap when it is released in mass quantities (currently its more expensive than Rimms) witch makes it far more reasonable for the consumer. I firmly believe DDR is the way to go, however, AMDs double pumped ddr bus is no match for Intels Quad pumped solution, regardless of the type of ram. Even when AMD moves to 266Mhz bus it will still fall behind Intels 400Mhz bus.
Personally, if the P4 is a good CPU for Photoshop and gives you NOTICABLE increases in speed when dealing with 600Mb files when compared to the 1.2Ghz T-bird than I dont think the affordability of a computer will be as important as getting the job done as quick as possible.
Dont get me wrong, Im not a P4 supporter nor a AMD basher, I like both Intel and AMD.

Ya i'm wasn't really against Intel.. But sometimes when people/companies become too big, they become total @$$holes
Ok ok i see your point.. although i get news on P4/T-bird with about 10 emails per day and visiting websites of course.
Here's some extractions AMDzone.com made from TomsHardware's P4 review:
Pentium 4 scores very badly in MPEG4 encoding benchmarks once the IEEE high quality iDCT is used.
Pentium 4 runs current office applications slower than Pentium 3 and much slower than AMD's Athlon, as proven in our Sysmark 2000 benchmark results from Monday.
Pentium 4 scores worse than Athlon in Unreal Tournament.
Pentium 4 is a very bad solution for compilations with gcc 2.95.2 under Linux.
Pentium 4 scores very badly in 3D Studio Max , proving a sub-par FPU.
Pentium 4 gets slightly beaten by Athlon in the 3D game MDK2.
Pentium 4 is badly losing out against Pentium 3 as well as Athlon in clock-for-clock comparisons.
Pentium 4 is currently the most expensive x86-system solution available.
BUT Pentium 4 is really good at Quake 3 Arena! Honestly!
And hey, i hope somebody makes i really good UNIX based OS to end the Microsoft damnation! MS becomes worse and worse with their soft (it gets softer ehhe).. |

Yea, thats why its only good for one game Quake3 was probably the only thing Intel tested there CPU with forgetting about everything else.
My next CPU will likely be a AMD, unless they (Intel) pulls something good out of there @ss by this time next year.

HEheheh Snakebyte, they wount. At least judging from what i read, Intel delayed their Dual processor chipset releas, and AMD already has one finished
DUALLY ACTION BABY!!! Yeha. |

The Rambus people are complete assholes. Don't buy their products.
If all you're interested in is Photoshop benchmarks, you might as well buy a Mac. |
