Here's a 3d model rotation of a run cycle for your approval (or disapproval)
The animation could be tweaked better and some points need work. Just a test.

Looks good to me...uh oh..here I go again...
If you're just doing a walk cycle test, lose the background, it's too dark, bump up the lighting so you can see everything, that way the shadows don't hide mistakes that might pop up later on.
As for rotating like that...I got dizzy..hehehe
try this..
set up your characters walk cycle, place him inthe corner of a cube. Make the cube reflective, this way you can see all sides of him.
this will allow you to see all sides of the character with out having to animate the camera.
I like the model, just wish i could have seen more of it, too dark.
How about making test anims at 320x240, they render faster and still provide you with the info you need and they will load faster for us to preview them.
As for your run cycle, I couldn't see if the body had any sway to it becaue of the camera. It didn't look like he was shifting his weight from one side to the other.
great stuff tho...keep at it! |

Man, this 3d stuff is all greek to me.
Nice work, I could never handle something like that.
I would however (since i've seen people run) say this: make him lean forward a little more. batman moves with great speed and control, so he'll be really into it.
I'd also move the torso a bit, as stated above.
Good work! For what it counts from someone whos really cluelesss. show us the revised version |

Hey lam, great to see some of your stuff!
As for a critique, I agree with what the previous posts said about the darkness, and rotating camera. In a walk-cycle demonstration all they serve to do is distract the viewer from the animation.
As for the cycle itself, its a great start that can be pushed a bit furthur with a few tweaks. Try adding some motion into the shoulders and hips; they appear somewhat static right now. When his foot is down, the weight bearing hip will raise up and the other hip will lower a it, and his hips will rotate along his long-axis as he reaches forward with a foot. Don't over do it though, or he'll end up with a sultry, sexy swank walk cycle like Jessica Rabbit... hmm.. maybe that's a good idea!
Try counter rotating his shoulders so that when his right foot is forward, his left shoulder is forward, remembering to keep the eyes facing in the direction of travel.
Also, to show a powerful run he needs to have some hang time between strides to show the force with which he thrust himself into the air. Really reach forward with those legs and extend them back as far as you can to emphasize the effort of running. Currently he looks a little bit like he's jogging because he doesn't come off the ground entirely.
I hope some of that made sense and helps a bit. Good stuff man! Post some more.
As for me, I just got back into 2D stuff, so I'll post a little while later.
Cheers!

Well I tweaked it a bit. Thanks guys for the pointers. Yes, I'm not an animator, I'm a modeler, but I'm tryin!
samdragon: got rid of the background and the camera move all together. I also rendered smaller. I was gonna put the previous movie onto tape... that's why it was a little big.
isric: I rotated the cog even more forward...thanks!
and finally mr. calvert: finally got your ass in here huh? thanks for the wisdom you passed down on my run cycle. It's probably my first one ever since VFS, so in total it's my second one in my notorious 3d career.
It's been a busy week for me. Had three interviews in four days, so I'm a little zoned. As for where, let's just say I hope to be working a block away from you. My fingers are crossed.
We have to go for that ever escaping "lunch" we talk about. Dim Sum? mmmmmmmmmmm.........
Here's the new one:
