Hmm.. IMHO your linework looks much better than your finished painting. The painting style you are using doesn't represent the metallics very well. Also, you should probably stay away from using Dodge&Burn. Dhabih needs to update his tutorial, because I'm pretty sure he quit using that technique over a year ago. Oh and you still need to work on seperating your focus from your background. I'm not trying to bash you just trying to give you some helpful tips. Your stuff has lots of potential. |

Yeah, after tryin the tut out I found the burn-tool does not only lighten/darken but increase/decrease the saturation a lot...what is the better technique to "quickshade" a unicolored spot? Dhabhi? Any of the pros?

Hey Psionic
Yeah I don't think the chrome is working right now. Chrome reflects the enviroment. typicaly this is in the form of a horizon. this gives you a hard edge for the hoizon line and a gradient going from light to dark (light being near the horizon). (I'm sure that doesn't make any sense I really need to draw it.)
The best example I can give you at the moment is this redo I did of Waylons Moon Warrior. It's not the best example but it Illustrates what I'm talking about. look at the armour.

Otherwise you could go have a look at spooges site http://www.goodbrush.com/ where there eare some nice tips for drawing shiny things. Have a look in the painting lessons.
Most important thing is the hard edge contrasted with the gradient. It makes things look shiny.
I think the sketch is good, and the other rendering you do is really nice in places but maybe work on he metalic technique a bit more. once you get it down stuff like this pic will look fantastic
Keep up the good work. |

Thanx for all the comments and tips much appreciated.
Rinaldo: I am aware of the conventional way of portraying chrome, but with this pic I just had a little fun making swirls and lines all over the place to achieve an oily/chrome/pearlescent type surface. It wasn't intended to be ultra-realistic if I had wanted that I would have rendered it in max.
Chapel: I use whatever techniques I like, I will not stop using a technique just because Dhabih doesn't use it anymore (No disrespect intended)
Detonation2000: Glad you liked the tutorial, and I use a mouse.
Thanx again for all the feedback.
