Here's a pic I am working on of a Superhero who's depressed for whatever reason. (No work, been-there-done-that, etc...)

Hmmm... let's see, suggestions...
Aaah. First, put any darkish background color behind him so he'll stop hurting your eyes when you're painting. :)
Second, you should work more on the face. That's about the only way to see if he's depressed and down or just sitting there bored.
So I'd recommend concentrating mostly on his face, the torso looks very super-heroish with all those exaggarated muscles already. After you nail the right expression continue with whatever detail was on your mind...

Would be great if you could include the reason his depressed, too, on the pic.

That's all I can think of. The muscles look somewhat as they should, use some comic's if any troubles occure... good luck.

Maybe I'll go for the bored look. I could have a calender with a date circeld and have it say "Off Work" or something.

I think you should make the background a skewed newspaper headline that reads something like "Every Criminal on Earth Behind Bars!" or something like that. Then we'd know why he's so blue (no pun intended ).
