Francis, pleeeeez don't stop posting this
guy. He is great. How about throwing him
into a larger setting similar to some of the
scenes you've posted before.
You and feng have inspired me to get some
markers and give it a whirl myself. I've
been using the tutorial on David CHiang's
site as a reference for this kind of work.
click on studio tips then marker sketch)
do you use a similar approach or something
different.
Keep it up man...

Cool drawing, but something looks weird. I can't help but think that his left hand is too small. I think it is because it looks like he isn't pulling back on the draw string which would mean his hand would be closer to the bow and the way the perspective kinda plays with the arrow it looks as though it is sloped downward. Course.. I could just be drunk. |

I've already teased Franics about this guy at work, and I can't help but do the same here . . . .
That guy must be one dangerous foe. He has no depth of perception with that ONE EYE!
*evil grin*

Hey Francis, looks pretty good. Reminds me of that Disney giant robot movie-he doesn't look like the type to kill anybody. But I notice you have a basic undersketch in pencil- maybe you should try to sketch with the 10s(Prismacolor rating here) instead. Since it's light, it's fairly forgiving, but you have to be more confident with your lines, and visualize better. I'm just learning this, with the help of a car designer friend.

Wow Francis?! How many monthes away are we from having an action figure of this guy? Make it eight inches, so he can battle my Spawn figures!
And, if it's not a bad thing to tell us too soon... what is that little rod sticking out of the bow front? |

Good job Francis and quite far from that Myst thing
Nice simple design with the emphasis on SHAPES. I like that. Cool.
The paper Francis is using can be found there: http://www.kellypaper.com/
I think it's the Fox River brand, Confetti paper (information courtesy Vortx).
Chapel: you're right; the hand is too small! ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

The uh hand is uh SUPPOSED to be smaller... it's a design thing, you understand...
Not really - I just drew badly.
Anyway, the paper is actually a recycled unbleached paper sketchbook that I got from the art store ( http://www.artstore.com ) a while back. I used the prismacolor markers here, which I'm not too used to with yet, which is why it's kind of a crappy rendering. There's a pencil underlay rather than a light value marker. I hadn't really figured out the design when I drew it, so there was a lot of erasing and redrawing.

Sorry to keep hauling out this same guy, but most of what I'm working on (even after work) I can't post.

Francis, my name is Matt and I'm a Myst/Riven-oholic. Now, your concept designs are what determines what the next chapter in the wonderful Myst Universe is. A great responsibility, and you did a wonderful job!
This picture...mmmmm..Very nice. i would love to get me some design markers and nifty paper myself. If it's not too much trouble, what kind of equipment did you use on this? |
