Okay so I am making this logo type thing for
a friend who has a band. This first image
is the quick concept I did for him...
The band was called Juno Veridian, but I guess
they changed the name. He likes the idea, but
wants kind of an anime / fantasy painting of
a blueish elf / nymph type topless / semi-topless
woman holding the flaming note. No words either.
Here is the concept that I did that I am not
very happy with. It is also my first marker
attempt...
I was going for a kind of whispy look with
long, thin limbs (which I didn't get) anyways
the pic has lotsa problems so I'd take any
critiques out there.
Oh, I did the marker concept from David Chiang's
tutorial located here http://www.dchiang.com/flash/robota.html
click on studio tips then marker sketch.
I was wondering if there were any other
tutorials out there that showcase a different
style of these kind of drawings.
Thanks in advance for the feedback...

I thought for sure with that 'Nudity' tag in
the thread I'd get at least one post.
Oh well...
This is my next image
I'm a little happier with this one. It is a
scanned pencil sketch. I changed the pose
but I can't quite get the hands and arms
right. She is supposed to be offering up the
note in this one with her hands cupped in
front of her.
Give me advice, crits, flames, etc....

Not sure what your going for. But here are some suggestions.
Do many many thumbnail sketches (small sketches about 2x2 inches) untill you get the general setup and shapes you want.they dont' have to be fantastic, just something to get your ideas out and onto paper.
I did a very quick thumbnail for ya to give ya an idea, and maybe help push some more ideas around into your head.
Notice the repition of angles and how I included those into the type, this will help tie in your art and type.
I made some areas darker for more emphisis, such as the front lit hand from the flames.
The brests are a little off, but as i said, this is only a thumbnail, just quickly sketching out stuff to get it down, it can later be detailed and more finished when A final idea is chosen.
Don't worry about color right now, just get your ideas down. It's not unusual to do about 20-30 of these thumbnails before you find what your looking for. Once you get a good thumbnail, go ahead and start playing with your colors schemes.
Hope this helps

Thanks samdragon, I guess I was trying to do
the whole thumbnail thing, but not to such an
extreme. I give that a whirl. I don't have
to worry about text anymore so I'll just focus
on the image.
I'll post more soon...
