Quick question, but maybe not a quick reply. Which do you most prefer - Photoshop or Painter? I use both very often and they both have their highs and lows, however I wanted to get some second opinions from this this lovely community of artists on what they think?

well, i'm new here and unfortunately my opinion won't quite carry the weight of some. I'm currently using Painter more because I'm not the type that gets paid by Hollywood to do matte paintings for the latest Tom Cruise movie. I can't get Photoshop to paint worth beans!! Your mileage may vary! |

Well, I use both but I definately prefer Photoshop. I guess it's got a lot to do with the fact that I know my way around Photoshop fairly well, while I'm relatively new to Painter.
I find I'm just using Painter6 when I want an effect only it can create, like it's natural media feels or it's computed scraperboard tool (which kicks the crap out of Photoshop5.5's brush for fluid linework)

HI !
I just using Painter 6, coz of his wonderful natural brushes and many other stuff.
The handling of Painter is a little spezial, but no reason to say "NO" to Painter.
Learn to handle with Painter and have fun creating pictures.
Photoshop cant gives me this experience. For my opinion Photoshop is just a Photoretouchtool. But not programmed for natural painting.
Just my opinion,
cheers,

p.s. Painter had now a better layerhandling, like Photoshop. Layerhandle in Painter5 was ****ing S***.
