I would say the best cure is to "Practice."

In drawing, I've often built simple models in Bryce , then lit them and posterized the image to "study" a simplified version of what I am trying to draw. If you have access to a 3D program, that might help. I got a bit of advice from an art instructor regarding curved surfaces. "Internal shading is smooth, cast shadows are sharp." Also Craig Mullins at www.goodbrush.com has samples from his art center class where they drew blobs and cylinders for a semester. It might have something useful for you.
