I thought I'd share this with you guys. I'm trying to get an inked sort of look out of A:M. This is what I've got so far.
Comments welcome!

Hey Jeremy,
In addition to the toon gradients, you might also try playing with the ink stroke shader by Andy Whittock. It references a bitmap to create its shading, which can lead to some interesting results depending on what image you point it to.
Cool stuff.

Believe it or not, I'm not actually using the toon gradient, Brian. The toon gradient was giving me weird results, so I tried setting falloff to 0 (which I assume does something similar).
I did a quick test to see how it renders animated. This is a simple rotation test.

the animation is a sorenson quicktime movie, 141k in size.
Thanks!

Hi JeremyT,
What you want to achieve reminds me of a project I saw once. I've lost the url since but was able to salvage a pic before 2 HD crashes. Here is it to give you an idea while I search for the link for ya :
Notre Dame Cathedral under rain. I can remember that this project was 100% cgi animated and that it felt like looking into Frank Miller's universe
Cheers !

Jeremy.. Do you also have a gaussian/lambert or phong type material on the character? I noticed some grey shading, specifically on the chest area, that showed up on the rotation that you probably don't want happening. Any idea how to get rid of that effect?

Napalm- yeah, I think I know why it's doing that. I have a different material set up on those areas, and it's probably not right. I'll fix it later today probably.

Synj: Yeah, I've done a lot of work with shaded stuff. I've done a comic for a long time with A:M Like this for example:
