Hi guys. I was wondering if it is legal to post mp3's or places where others could get mp3's on this forum. The reason for this is because I was hoping we could start a thread where people have links to the favourite mp3's that have inspired their art style, or simply music u may listen to while drawing.

I think music is one of the greatest sources of inspiration for art because it conveys deep emotion. So yeah.

Even if you don't have the song, it would be cool to list it, and the genre or whatever, and what it has inspired u all to draw.

Well, i don't know if this thread will be successfull, but I personally think it can help a lot of people get in their zones.

1)Empire of the Sun - Suo Gan
composed by john williams
- it's a kind of opera type song with patrick bates singing...really nice. It always makes me feel in a mood for an epic pic.

No offence but I think this is a terrible idea...especially if your planning to post copyrighted stuff or links to that. This is an art board and nobody wants to see it shut-down because of legal issues that have nothing to do with art (that's what Napster is for . As for inspiration...everything is inspiration, anything and everything you experience with your 5 (or 6 ) senses is inspiration. Even food as strange as that sounds

I dont agree with what you are saying. Posting the name of the song and the artist sure.. but links to it etc not a good idea. I think that might cause problems for sijun.

Anyways..

Yeah, I don't see anything wrong with posting just the name of it...

Into Another - "May I" <--it's a really slow, mellow song, kind of relaxing, puts you in the mood for a serene pic

Sure dino, then why don't u just print a song title out for others to download in napster. I didn't say u have to. And i agree anything can be inspiration, but music is one of the bigger ones fer sure.

and this has everything to do with art, so don't be so narrow minded.

as for everyone else, cool. But lets go into more detail about how the songs have helped us draw and stuff!

Well, i have been listening much to monster magnet lately, and the FAKK2 soundtrack, i basicly bought the CD because the cover is made by simon bisley, but the music was way better then i first though.
Else its Enigma, Era, Prodigy, Apollo for forty, hardcore superstar etc.

I belive in order to create brutal art youll need brutal music in the background that cind of makes you a little agressive.
(not to other people though, im a really nice guy )

For atmospheric inspiration original soundtracks are best IMO. "the sixth sense" OST for example is simply dripping with atmosphere - if you are after a sad, scary mood that is. For wacky stuff I twist my ears with mr. bungle...

I really like to put on some ambient spacey trancey techno kinda stuff when working. Nothing with words, mind you... just sounds. The more ambient the better. If there's no lyrics, my left-brain just shuts down immediately, leaving me and my right-brain to really get into whatever's in front of us. Time just flies by.

I don't really have an opinion to cast on the whole legality/MP3 thing... but there's a ton of good ambient techno stuff over at MP3.com that you can download for free, legally. Yes... believe it or not, there are still musicians in this world who make good music just for the sake of their love for music, and not for money. They've made it all free to the world, and if you want, you can even send some of them $6 or so and they'll send you a CD, but there's no obligation. Now that's a good thing.

Some artists you might want to check out:
Wintermute
Bassic
BlueTonicWorld
Ikarus
Tom Aragon
TEFNB
Alien Headspace
Edison Suit
Mystical Sun
Trancendental Anarchists
Tranceversions

I'm a pretty big electronica addict.. when I draw or paint or something, I'm usually listening to Paul Van Dyke, or something off mp3.com. If you want some nice mood setting music, look up Tom Aragon on mp3.com.

I'm listening to Satoshi Tomie, Full Lick right now.... damn good stuff.
