Make it a black card with really, really dark grey text. |

Black with grey text? I think I`ll try something else. I like your card zapman I`ll post the one Im working on when it`s finished. Why dont every one post their business cards here.... I want to see more and some more advice would be great. thanks. |

Zapman, might I suggest using less than 5 fonts when doing a design. Certainly while doing a small-area design like a business card.

Here's my card:
In retrospect the font is WAY too small, but hey.
When designing your own card, the most important thing to decide is what you want people to notice first. Your name? Your company name? For my card, we wanted the company name to be most prominent... Zapman apparently wanted people to know that he does webdesign first and foremost.
There are tons of different layouts you can use for the text, all equally valid. As Scoop said, you want to keep the number of different fonts to a minimum... And you want to make sure everything's LEGIBLE! Make sure there's plenty of contrast between the text and the background.
One final note... You'll probably want to find out who'se going to print your card BEFORE you finalize the design. Many people who print cards can do a really cheap and high-quality job if you pick one out of 15 colors of ink that they stock... If you go with something like Zapman's card, or mine, they'll have to use CYMK ink and print it like a normal printer, which is more expensive, and doesn't always look quite as nice.
Hope this helps. Any more questions, let me know. |

Here`s a Quick "sketch" of what I came up with.
I haven`t made any logo yet and the blue text at the bottom is where I`ll have the info, e-mail , address etc.
I`ll post again when I finished it just have to come up with a logo for the company. |

The design looks good. The only thing I'd say is make all of the text bigger, as big as you can. Even the logo. When that thing is shrunk down to 1.5 inches tall, most of the text is going to become practically illegible. (Same problem I had on my card. ) |
