I like the capture like view as if it was a photograph . I think the main reason it looks a bit flat is cos you've only shaded aroun the edge which makes it look like you did a button filter on him (I'm not saying you did tho and I dont think you did ). Also maybe move the highest arm a bit higher or define the it a bit better cos it looks like it's attached to his head. |

I think if you put a nice eye on it things tend to look better. I tried doing a redo of the whole thing but It wasn't very good. So I just posted the eye. Did you use ref? the frog looks a bit wierd to me.
Anyhow a good eye makes the differnce. also have a look at those sketches Vortx did. see how he handled the skin texture with limmited materials. Frogs have translucent skin (I think most do anyway).
Hope this helps If you can't see how I did the eye I might be able to explain a bit better but I think it's self explanatory. I modeled it on my limmited experiance in drawing frogs so it might not be right for your frog.

Bah, I couldn't help trying to fix it since it's more or less the same kind of problem I've been hitting with my latest (unreleased of course) couple of pics, so I know it's probably even worse, but here's the version I fiddled with (incorporating the cool eye).
I think one thing which would help your drawing would be to get rid of the black lines. Don't just smudge them, paint over them. There aren't any black lines in nature :-)
Please don't hit me - at least I gave some advice along with the bad rework :-P

For all whom are interested here's a nice quicky technique for doing eyes.
Resolution shown is what I worked in.
I first use some round brushes. to get the circles. then I start to bring it out. remember that eyes are round and that the pupil is inset a bit. I then define the socket and add a bit of (badly chosen no doubt) colour besides green. The I add some pure white reflections. What I have done here is very generic and unrealistic but it makes it look round so that'll do. I then go over in a triangle with a low opacity of white. And that's about it. Not very sophisticated but it works to an extent.
Hope this helps. In your later version Masaccio you have used too much smudge or airbrush. the reflections are blured, which destroys the felling of dimension. Use more round brush. It will help you to define your shapes more.
Hope this helps a bit more.

Excellent description. I could not have done it better myself.

I suppose it would work for the iris on human eyes... Btw, try to desaturate the green of the eyes in your version a bit... also, do get rid of the black lines!!! :-)
Good luck.
