this is litruly the coloured in version of one of my sketches I posted here recently. I've changed the pic very much and he's meant to be dead, sitting down against a wall. I want his eyes to look like they've been burnt or poked out but i'm not sure how to do things like blood. The left (his right) side of him isn't finished yet. and bits round the neck are a bit wonky. but still I'd like your ideas on how to improve it. |

first off its much to blurry... there are no hard edges and it really turns me off looking at a picture and not being able to place my eye on anything...its so blurry my eye just wanders around with no direction. What i would do to improve it is clean up the edges etc and not use solid BLACK as a color for shading but instead the darker values such as the darker greens and blues...
also what is this supposed to be? i mean you said it was some guy with his eyes burned out but where is this taking place? theres no setting.... it makes the painting very boring.. for one, most of the painting is taken up by his shirt...which is not interesting at all there are no dramatic folds or dynamic lighting or shadows cast that would make his shirt interesting. the painting also looks very flat, try throwing in a background, and adding some more color too your character as well as define the edges and i think it will improve hte pic 100%!! i love the textures tho, they are really nice gives a nice feel to the pic, and hte concept is good (could be a little more indepth) but still good.
hope this helps

Yeah, i also think the image is way too blurry. It needs more sharpness and details.
What are those black dots all over his suit ?
You should defenatly take them out of there, it messes up the image even more.
Try to get some textures on the helmet also, it looks too simple, his body suit also.
I hope this helps you a bit.

Hi Jaffa, i tried out a couple of things on your picture, hope you don't mind.
Since your picture were pretty blurry the eyes that were suppose to burned out could be mistaken for shadows, so i added some burned blood and sharpened some areas.
I also mainly desaturated the picture a bit,
because using the dodge, or burntool makes the colours very intense and too sharp.
Some details were were sharpened and highlighted. Hope this can help you a bit

micke you are exelent I see what you mean. My whole picture was just a flat colour changed by the darken and lighten tools which is what I've been doing for a month or two now. Your's looks like it was painted directly... I think I should have ago at that. thanks to everyones comments I think I will start from the begining if I do anything else to it |

He used Photoshop, the paintbrush. At one point he had the Wacom set to size. He probably only used on paint layer, although that part doesn't really matter as much-using multiple layers on something like this is just to keep it clean.

Craig has a very neat tutorial on the basics of this shading technique (must be the basics, cause I managed to follow and apply it :-P) on http://www.3dpalette.org
Look at the bottom of the page.
