here is one of the many attempts to get a somewhat appealing rock structure.
Please help me out and point some errors out to me.
(other than the left slope looks unfinished)

for some reason it looks a bit like a miniature.
perhaps the faraway cliffs look a bit blurry -> depth of field makes it look smaller.
dunno. definitely looks like a solid clump of stone in the best parts.

Nex: I think this is perhaps your best rock study so far. The lighting looks absolutely gorgeous and adds alot of atmosphere.
My only crit is that the foreground seems a bit rushed but I think you mentioned that.
Excellent definition there Nex. |

like it too
but it looks so....hh..monotonous(maybe because you used colors in nearly the same value..[proper English?]
I think some highlight in the pic would do it

eetu: Don't know where the miniature look comes from.. not enough deep shadows maybe?
Will fix the far cliffs. thx.
ceenda: thanks. I will work on the foreground. I was just not yet sure if I should make this into a "real" picture or just leave it as a study.
silber: the "monochrome" look comes from the way I worked this time. Just Greyscale for the rocks, color applied later.
thank you for the input

Nice work Nex. I really like the colors. Very moody.
Some parts looked overworked while others seem of a more loose and free style.
Thats what I noticed.
Keep up the great work.

Actually, it does look like a paper miniature model.
But I think it's because of the texture is more refined further into the picture than the place close to it. It's an significant perspective error. Because the further away you see an object, the less details you see. See? This is somewhat a counter-example.
But, I'll let you pass on this one since it looks so d*mn nice! |
