Well, I don't know how much you're going to be able to accomplish with an old dos box... but here are the basic dos commands:
dir - list files
cd <directory name> - change dir
cd .. - back up a dir
copy <filename> <destination> - copy a file
move <filename> <destination> - move a file
del <filename> - delete a file
There's obviously a lot more, but this should get you started... maybe you'll find something interesting. |

v1.31??? Are you sure? If yes, then you need to upgrade to 3.3 at the very least, if not 6 (much better). In fact, I don't think you CAN have DOS 1.31 (assuming that version existed) since I don't think windows would be able to run on that.
Hmm... Sorry to say that, but it doesn't sound like much of a bargain if that's all you can run on it. I wouldn't pay one dollar for such an old laptop (if it's as old as it sounds). What processor does it have?
I managed to grab a Compaq LTE laptop from a place I worked at last summer, since they were gonna throw them away, and that's got a 486 and 32 megs of RAM in it, and even that's pretty crappy...
Good luck with it anyway!

I love dos.. one of the sad things about Win2000.. no good ol dos. If only dos had a little more functionality, a free compiler, and could mutlitask. Wait.... thats linux!
Thats an ancient version of Windows there.. where the dark seeded evil phenominon began.
Btw, I kinda think all of this belongs in random musings.. but uh, has anyone seen this http://www.owpcentral.com? Windows... for free! And open source. Yay.. maybe they'll do a better job than Microsoft.
I'll shut up now.

It's a sad day and age when people no longer know how to use good old dos.... man forget windows, get yourself a vintage copy of norton commander, or Xtree and manage those files with ease seriously though, I think every computer should come with a complementary weekly crash to dos, just so people would learn it |

If it's off-topic and you know it is, then PLEASE post it in Random Musings (or whatever it's called these days). There's plenty of people there reading the posts.
We really have got to keep things inline ourselves.
ps.. Commandlines are scary! A painter's greatest enemy..

What are you talking about? Painting would be much easier if you could use a command line to do it!
Imagine, instead of spending hours and hours drawing your barbarian warrior, you could just type:
>> draw barbarian warrior
And blam. A barbarian warrior.
