Go to the following web address: http://www.highend2d.com/tools/

I don't know what format you're working from, but Photoshop should be able to do it with the Alias plug-in.

.sgi is often refered to as .rgb and I'm pretty sure there is a loader/saver plugin for Photoshop available which handles this format. There is probably one for Gimp as well.

ACDSee is also able to read these images and therefore may be able to save/convert them.

thanks you very much for the help guys but unfortunately...

1)there is a sgi plugin for after effects that works with photoshop 3 and 4 but not 5
2)sgi and rgb are the same or nearly so but unfortunately in need rbda (a for alpha channel) which is not supported by .raw or .rgb.
3)acdsee does read .sgi's but it won't save them.

any other ideas?
