Well with the help of Rinaldo and all the others who helped out, I have finally started doing digital sketches....soon to be paintings. I'm still in the process of trying to accomplish in Photoshop and Painter what I can do in hand paintings and other mediums. Practice the quick sketch...they all said....well here eat it....
Got my wacom in the mail yesterday and when I installed it...here's what came out....
...it's crap....took about five or six minutes, but it's the practice that counts! That fucky thing at the top is suppose to be someone's shoe, there standing on boards...and that bloody knife thing...err? Nevermind!
Here's a quick 10 min sketch I did for that "truely alien post". I think I improved a little imo!
And lastly here's my Mad Prof. for Nex's mad professor post. I kinda like this one for some reason....stills sucks tho!
Well my first day with my wacom. I'm far from the level of this boards artist....digitally...but I'll get there. If you think I suck just let me know...that's the stuff that makes me try harder! Go ahead tell me I suck.......no for long!
all comments, complaints, and adive esp. is appreciated.

I don't think you're quite there yet but it looks like a good start . I might suggest going without opacity initialy and then only smoothing things out where needded at the last minute. I think you might also want to do some slower stuff. Quick is good for praciting put not good for statrting off with. Maybe start with a scanned sketch for practice to focus on the rendering. Really try and break things up into simple shapes of flat colour. Try doing some black and white stuff maybe. Maybe try and follow spooge's tutorial very closely, using the same subject etc, then you might be able see what is wrong more clearly.
Just some ideas. (I'm definitly no master)
Keep trying and you'll get it. I'd like to see what you come up with once it starts happening |

I also find it difficult to do digital art straight on the computer, I've always found it easier to draw or sketch on paper, scan it in and then play around with the image.
The first two images aren't refined enough and makes it hard to see what's going on.
The third piece is good. The colours are bright and stand out against the background and the gold tooth, monocle and genie shoes are a nice touch.

Ok for your first pics with a wacom these are quite normal... If you would like here are a few tipes that helped me. First is to use the paintbrush with the various round shaped brushes with opacity checked. You also need to get comfortable with using the wacom as a medium itself, and that takes a long time for some and quicker time for others. Second refer to photos and paint them in photoshop in a certain amount of time (15 - 20 minutes). There was a thread on it if anyone would post the link it would help. These tips helped me out tremendously and hope they'll do the same for you, the most important factor is practice. Good Luck |
