Hey there...

Well, I've been drawing (quick pencil sketches mostly) all my life, never taken any art classes or any other formal art education though. Anyways, I (semi) recently got a graphics tablet, and my first experiment (about half an hour) with it and Painter is below:

I spent a little more time to put this picture together:

These images might not work sometimes since crosswinds goes up and down more than Monica on a roller coaster, but anyways...

All comments are welcome. Hopefully I can find time to do more painting... I know I have alot to learn about it, as well as using colors, etc.

Thanks.
Greg

I know, working on it... turns out crosswinds doesn't let you link directly to images on their site, since its too much of a "bandwith hog". Grrr...

Hmm...on the second pic, it appears as if the guy and the girl...well...the entire foreground is during the day, while the background is night. Try shading a bung-load more, and try sillouhetting (holy shite excuse my spelling) some of the trees.

Gee... you are an artistic genius!

Heheheh, figured I'd bump this bad boy up to the top since I only got one comment, and the one pic I am working on now isn't done yet. I see alot of faults in it now, more than I did before I started painting the new pic and reading this forum alot. Yuckola.

Anyways, I gotta go press "repeat" on my cd player, sounds like my New Kids on the Block cd is about to finish. Can't let that happen.

I like the composition on the second pic...It's moody..

Their feet and legs look a little wooden though... I'm not talking about tone/color...They just seem stiff, as if almost they're hobbling along... I noticed their shoulders are tilted...When someone tilts their shoulders in a more relaxed pose, their hips tilt the opposite direction... ie: o-\-/

Hope that helps... Your pic is way better than my first attempt...Keep it up.

Like Golangria said, the lighting is a bit off. Try shading a lot more; the way you have it now, there seems to be a little shading on either edge with white/black/burn/dodge, which gives it a 2D effect. Go for a more rounded look.. ( can't help you there maybe someone more experienced could.)

The perspective seems a bit out of whack between the couple, the river, the far bank, and the buildings.. different angles, distances dont look right, etc... though I dunno why. I really like your painting style on the trees, river, and moon, good job.

3 things to work on.

1. the shading, its very very flat, the entire image. the weeping willow looks like its just a tree with green soft towels thrown over them, add some speckles of different color in there and put more detail in the leaves...

2. the guys neck. its WAAAAAY too long, unhumanly long. i mean, dont forget his neck starts at the base of his collar, so take that away and visualize how long that dudes neck is....it makes him look sorta funky. also, the position of his head and the alignment of his back are a little off.

3. his pants....they look like theyre skintight (based on those hard and sharp edges) yet theres wrinkles in them....it doesnt look right, it makes it seem like his legs are made out of playdoh or something

the girls butt isnt too bad tho, heh. i couldnt resist that compliment.

Hahahah... holy crap, I never noticed the neck and pants thing until you pointed that out! Maybe I should just paint him over like a giraffe.

Well, a giraffe wearing skin tight wrinkly pants and a blue shirt, anyways.
