Well, it's not bad for a second attempt, but you still got a lot to work on. The black lines are too thick and smudgy. They should either be very thin or non existing, if you're trying to be realistic. The color itself is a little too yellow for human skin, but the shading and lightning isn't bad. Still got some work, though. Look at some of the artists here in the forum and try learning from their work. Personally, by the way, I prefer the first drawing. |

The coloring makes him look lik ehe has jaundice. Try taking the advice someone else gave you on your first post and lay down blocks of color first, then build on those blocks. Oh and try to stay away from the dodge burn tool when you are doing flesh, it makes the skin look like it was cooked in the microwave.

Well, seeing as the sketches were obviously made by someone at a much more advanced stage than who coloured them, and that they looked a lot like Alan Tew's stuff, I went exploring. Sure enough: http://www.beeba.net/1999/Alan_089.JPG
And the cigar-smoking fellow you coloured was one of Tew's designs, too, of crouse, so I assume the girl is his as well. (I didn't find it on the site, but it might've been on one of the doodle pages - I only skimmed through the thumbnails.
Colouring sketches for practise is one thing, but at least give credit where credit is due.

the very front of his hair near widow's peak looks like he tried getting rid of his bangs by shaving that part of his head.. |

Quit coloring Alan Tew's artwork without his permission. |

Woah guys...jump off the hate bandwagon for just a second. Sure, he should have credited the artist, but to me it looked like he said he was "coloring" it not drawing it.
And coloring is a perfectly legitimate form of art. Its a lot of fun, and can be really rewarding, especially if you lack the artistic skills to draw really well. You do know in comics that colouring is a seperate job from pencilling, inking, and lettering? As for whether he should be using someone elses drawings, if he's practicing, why the hell not?
binder, just properly credit next time k? |

Yeah, well, but colouring someone else's sketch and using it as your splash page is a different issue, don't you think? |

immi: The way I see it... this is the 3rd pic of Alan Tew's I have seen binder "color". If you go to Alan's site you will see it says not to use the images without his permission. To me that means.. don't use any images for anything unless Alan says so. What binder is doing is called disrespect. Not to mention he added two pixels to dhab's image and posted it here. Its sad. |

If it was my art he was coloring I would be pretty furious. People shoudl ask permission. If granted then ok. If not then leave it alone!#%^$^@!

Came on, Jenn, are not you being a bit exaggerated? "Er, please, Mr Mister, can I color some of your sketches for... like, for fun?" Do not tell me you did not ever take a comic book and tried to copy someone else's drawing (heck, even trace). S/He is just playing with those drawings, no harm intended. I do think it would have been nice to acknowledge the sketch author, but he did not say they were his/hers either. |

Playing with the sketches to learn is fine.
Putting them up as your splash page with your signature in the corner is not.

Wow. Much thanks to everyone that kept a lookout for me...
Binder emailed me, but I never got back to him before all of this hooplah. He should have credited me with the sketch right away, but I want everyone to know that it's cool now.
I'm actually really easy with my drawings and everyone is welcome to color away as long as they remember to give me proper credit, and I believe he's doing that now.
What a goofy time for me to finally participate on this forum... yay for damage control.
sanks,
