All people who think a FAQ is a good idea:
Help make it!!!!!
What are the questions that piss you off because you've seen threads about them 1000+ times on this forum? What are the topics you'd like people to read about FIRST before posting a thread about them... it's really up to YOU to help do this! I would take the initiative and just do it... but I'd like to do some IMAGES for a change! lol Many hands make light work...
FYI, Muzman posted a thread about this before - sorry Muzman I assumed there couldn't possibly be a FAQ thread... otherwise people would be trying to contribute to it to solve the problems so many seem to be upset about...
=============================================
Waft fumes from my brainfart of what the *final* FAQ outline might look like - but with lots of stuff missing. Why do my ears stink mommy?!
dennison... 10 lines including blank ones? I'll do more links to keep it down for the Digital forum
=============================================
Step 1. Contribute to FAQ list
...Topics so far:
- Photoshop Techniques (Blur/Dodge, Layers, etc.)
- How To Draw (Hair, Toenails, etc.)
- Good Schools (Animation, Webdesign, Basketweaving, etc.)
- Free Hosting Sites
- Cool Forums
- 3D
- Tablets
- __?__ <-- your idea here
(post your questions with answers below and we'll compile everything later...)

This is a very good start, but i think that maybe a few of these thing could be combined so we don't end up with too much. Maybe techniques and layers should be combined,
and How to draw hair should maybe be
combined with how to draw etc...
Also i think that we should combine a lot of these things in order to make it creative to the max! I think it's important.
If a person is interrested in just "paint"
for example he might miss a lot of what's posted in how to draw for example, wich is very relevant for painting in order to get things right.
This is my suggestion however:
Digital Realm
--------------------------------
-Images
-Painter
-Photoshop
-3d programs(should maybe be combined with 2d digital art.)
- Tools
- ImageReady
- Hardware:
Harddisk
Monitor
Processor
Scanner
Tablet
Video Card
Traditional Realm
--------------------------------
-Drawing:
people, animals, technic stuff, enviroment, depth colours, light and shadow, materials
- Sculpting
- Paint
- Starter stuff
- Purchase online
- Suggested Reference
Books
Picture banks and texture banks?
I hope i have'nt missunderstood this in any way.

great work. good list (I particularly like the Donn knotts in 4 minutes bit; It's probably some in-joke I don't understand but funny none the less)
First of all, like I said in the other thread before I refreshed and saw this one, I think the FAQ could use a Primer or preamble or something. As it is it will be largely a collection of links, so some ideas about behaviour on the forum would be good too.
First one: As you enter the forum for the first time get off your high horse and leave it at the gate.
second: If you post a pic, expect comments on it. Many different kinds of comments too. This is not a wank gallery. If you expect only praise you probably won't get it.
third: If you like someone elses pic, say so. If you don't like it or you think it could be better, say so. But in all cases try to say why you think these things.
these aren't rules, just basic principles that could be at the top of the FAQ or something. |

I also think we should have a mouse section in case tablets are to expensive for some people. Also under hardware we should have memory or is that harddisk? And maybe something about operating system, and a section on tweaking or tweaking programa. IMO |

I just wanted to suggest for the hardware and software questions that Loki has already quite a good how-to all about it on his web site http://www.vigilante.net/~loki/pages/frameset1.htm
Maybe it could be incorporated into the faq along with his awesome four hour sketch of how you should set up your desk.

perhaps you should have a secxtion about who deserves respect and why, who to watch out for and who will get REALLY pissed if you say the wrong things. In fact, all you long standing members could write your own little faq's about yourselves, saying what pisses you off.

-back up the top you go mr thread-
about the fame thing, (although I suspect neutral? is joking somewat). most of the big names have sites with all kinds of tips and tutes, so I reckon they'll be up high on the list of "sites to learn from" right after the tutorial collection sites and indexes etc |

You know, spending 3 hours reading every Thread with the word 'tutorial' in it can give you a headache. Though my eyes may itch to take flight, I've just experienced something fun and enlightening... seeing who was here way back when, who said what to whom, cool artwork, cool tutorials, etc. I recommend going back and perusing the old Threads - if not for nostalgia's sake. Quite fun.
Now does anyone have any Advil?
I have a list of about 60 links... some I've gone through... *feels discouraged* I'll round up member's sites first, and check out the main sites next... I'll narrow it down to a manageable list that covers the basics and a few more advanced techniques... wml.
-k
PS: Unless anyone else is doing any concrete work for this FAQ - (Anyone?), I think it's going to be like a "Starter Kit" for beginners. Then, we can build on it later...
PPS: Post more pics in the Gallery 2000 already! It's an easy way to see a lot of artwork quickly! *yum!* |

Well, since you're already well into the "leg work" so to speak I wanna see how you do it. If you get bored and feel like dropping it I think someone will pick it up.
Based on other FAQs I've seen I was thinking it might go a bit like this. (there's a standard format for them somewhere)
Sijun forums frequently asked questions list
started (and hosted?) by kurisu
-mail here for corrections and contributions-(could be my address, your address, whoever's address)
-Purpose of the forum. Points to remember when joining in.-
(insert any principles that are approved)
The questions in this FAQ are listed roughly in order of complexity and experience in art (digital or otherwise), from broad skills to more specific techniques and mediums.
(-big index goes here-)
section 1
question 1
Q: How do I learn to draw?
A: consensus from the forums is this: By drawing. Draw any way you can, with whatever you've got. Things from imagination, things from life, things you don't care about, things you've always wanted to see drawn. This is the best way to get started, to see what you want to do and how you want to do it.
Q:what do I draw with?
A: this is best answered with a look at styles and techniques (-link to lower section on style and section on technique-)
(this is where things can get a bit Jeopardy. Guessing and making up topics and turning them into questions.)
Q: what is digital art?
A: there's a lot of debate about this. At the broadest definition it is anything 'made' in digital form. Some draw the line at art drawn by traditional means and scanned into computer. It is fairly safe to say that using computer software to create an original work one way or another qualifies it as part of digital art. The Sijun Forums deal with the visual end of digital arts and mostly static images.
Q: what is digital painting?
A: A term coined for the technique that uses art software in a simillar way to traditional painting, but with all the advantages of the computer. (-links to techniques section-)
blahblahblah...
I expect there will be a largeish section of the introductory questions (15 or so) with lots of cross referencing between them and sections on technique, tech, history etc; then we get into the links, both general and specific. I can do the write ups for the top section if you want. Gotta know what's out there first. I'll keep looking, you chuck together what ever you've got and we'll see if it rides |

Muzman I think I shat myself!!!
That's AWESOME! You are THE MAN! I just had my gas tank refilled - WOOHOO!
*wheeze*
Well, as long as you're here, I won't want to drop it - and if you're interested in hosting, I think you'd make a fine host And I think I remember a certain someone starting a certain Thread on a certain March 1st, called a certain "FAQ," but how can I be certain? (so my name no go there!)
:P

Bums! how about we give good old Dhabih a holler, maybe he be interested in hosting?
hehe I think it would be a great idea for a FAQ, but... i don't think it'll turn out like a FAQ, it'll turn out more like a huge tutorial page with links to tutorial pages and ideas on how to make tutorials of what iwth tutorials on them! (get my drift?)
lol, umm... cause think about, all those things about techniques, ways to draw and stuff... might as well make a tutorial page? |

How's it going kurisu?
(I should probably give you my icq num or something)
I've just been doing searches for the words "question", "what"& "how" just to see what folk are asking.
slow but strangely amusing.

Just slow and strange for me
I haven't been as diligent as I should, I'm afraid. But, you're posting has whipped me into shape!
I'll just crawl into bed and wake up and start all over again...
No, but seriously. Isn't it amusing, though? To actually go back and review what people have said - not just looking randomly, but searching for certain things?
If only this UBB had better search functions...
Okay! I'm not going to let myself get lazy for this like I have with my taxes (!). I'm on it, Muzman... *yawn*

here's your chance newcomers, contribute to the future of the Forum. read through this; share your ideas and be sure to ignore me and marksman's inane banter. |

Okay, here's the ONE thing that really, REALLY bugs me. I don't know why this in particular gets on my nerves more than other things, but it just does. PEOPLE COMPLAINING AND WHINING WHEN LINKS SUPPOSEDLY "DON'T WORK"!!! It's been said thousands of times, you just DRAG THE LINK INTO THE ADDRESS BAR AND THE PIC SHOWS UP. PLEASE put that in the FAQ so I don't explode or something. Yeah. Word.

Yeah; how to handle crotchety free web hosts is a must for any list I agree.
But, man, where the hell is everybody? Do they see the thread and go; "That's not about art" and move on?
Yes it bloody well is about art! Get in here and contribute!!
Who are you yelling at Muz?
The people not reading this thread.
Of course |

Maybe we could have one big master list of all the members with websites, that way we could avoid the monthly "Post your websites" threads. |
