Hi Folks
I feel kinda stupid posting this old image again.... but I haven't really done anything worth mentioning since.... and boy does that suck! But my current work doesn't leave me with much pixel-energy, at the end of the day. (I'm working on the LEGO MindStorms projects, mainly with Photoshop compositing and Quark Xpress/Illustrator work.... I also do the odd design once in a while).
Currently I'm trying to better my figure drawing skills.... so when I'm up to speed again I'll post some character concepts.
Here's the oldy that I posted a long time ago:
And here's a link to the original rez:
IllithianaHighRez
I did a little 3d animation with a friend of mine last summer....
Here it is... 12.3 MB:
Speedcore
All modeling/texturing/lighting/animation was done in 4 days, we had a lot more planned so the anim is only the start sequence of what was intended to be.
I made the spaceship in Maya and the world was made by my friend in Softimage.
Everything was matched up and rendered seperately. Finally it was composited in Media Illusions on an SGI.
When I look at it now it pretty basic, but it was a fun excercise to do....
I havent touched 3d either, since march this year, so I'm quite a sad git!....
I WANT MORE TIME AND ENERGY!
C ya

i find it amusing that female aliens look nothing like female humans, yet they always seem to retain breasts :P |

Have any of you seen the anim?
Or is the download too slow/big?
Well... here's a few wireframes of the ship:

cool animation!
i like the way the racer/vehicle jumps around, gives me the impression that it's light and "zippy" for lack of a better word
BTW what do the nazis at the end have to do with the theme of the animation? is there a deeper story?
PS do you work? It frustrates me how much energy it takes away from your own personal projects

Hi Lethargicboy
The soldiers are just put in as an element to awaken curiosity, just as it did in you
There's also a pic of an evil-looking friend of mine in there....
And yes... as stated in the original post I do work full time, sometimes more.
So when you like to socialize a bit too, it leaves very little time for larger projects.
Well... I guess it's all a matter of priority, so I won't really whine more about it....

The alien woman picture.. is pretty flat. Her anatomy is quite weird too (but, coz she's an alien it's quite impossible to say anything more than that)
The perspective is also off alot IMO. the grayish floors vanishing point should be alot more downwards or something...
Overall, it seems you can paint ok, but you should concentrate more on the bigger shapes and dont mess with the details so soon
3D anim, it was good, though, the canyon could have had more detail & variation. Texture maps were ok on the ship, water and the canyon, and I loved how that face comes up in the end.
Soundtrack was good, reminds me of autechre . Could have used more anim. sync'd sfx, specially at the end.
I watched it several times, so I guess I liked it

Thanks iska
I totally get your points on perspective and not doing details.....
But this was very much a venture into studying light/shadow (in my head).
And I did get into detailing before the overall shapes were defined, but I just continued oblivious to all the nasty misakes!
But I've learned a lot since that, thanks to all the groovy people pouring their knowledge out over this forum
I'm also glad that you liked the anim, it is very simple animation wise, but it was all we could manage in the time we had.
I hope to post something new, soon...

It is curious you tried to do a study on light in this alien thingy, because I find it somewhat weird. Highlights are all over the body at different angles. For example the head is lit in the right and has shadows in its left, but then look at the arms, they are the opposite. Also, the floor seems tilted towards us, probably because of the visible strokes.
Just my 2c
