was just wondering how you guys go about making plastic/glass or any other transparencies, especially for like something for example where you see an eye through some type of glasses. that kind of effect, would you just paint it as normal and change the opacity/laymode or is there more to it?

This wont answer all your questions but it should help fill in a few blanks. Go to the following link. It is a tutorial about transparency. It is actually the last page of a 4 part tutorial dealing with metals and reflective surfaces. So you will probably want to go back to the beginning and read the whole thing through. If you skip down to the bottom of the article you will see links back to the first 3 pages of the tutorial.
