Hello,

I'm a Year 10 student about to enter my VCE in Australia and hope one day to work in game design/story creation in computer games. The problem is I don't know what classes I will need to aquire such a job. If anyone could please supply me with a list of classes to take at school (or better yet; University classes I could take).

To show my desperation to gain entry into the designing field i have already compiled a 50 Page 'book' on a new game. This 'book' features mission details, game details, character biographies etc and goes into great detail.

Any information you can give me would be of great help, thanks.

Regards, -Glenn Thomas

Well im in year 10 in Sydney im filling out my subject choice form now....

Well what are you exactly asking... Whatever subjects you choose now won't disable you to get into the gaming industry... ok you have your great game concept now go to a developer and say hey look at this...if they like it your hired...

Basically nearly every Uni course in Nsw doesnt need a prerequisit...

SO just do the subject you enjoy..

Im doing

Visual Arts... Geo.. Modern History... Bio.. Advance english.. 2unitmaths

what are you doing?

well I suggest you do Advance english if you are going into more of the writing end of the business...

Don't go for the ultra hard subjects if you just want to draw/design/create. I think I mentiond in another thread that my Girl friend got a stupidly high scoore (high ninties) and then went for a portfolio course. If you go to uni and they take aplicants based on HS scores then forget it. Often you don't need a high score to get in, and you get all sorts of people who have no idea just jumping in because then got crap grades and "hey, drawing's easy anyway".
Do art based subjects if you want to get into design. if you want to design the story/concept then you will probably find the reality a bit of a disapointment. Read this bit of Paul Steeds "Thinking outside the box" http://www.loonygames.com/content/1.8/totb/ .

I am assuming that you are in someway interested in doing some visual design. becuase this is a digital art board after all.
If so then do any art/design subjects you can. they may not be fantastic but it will get you into that frame of mind (as opposed to the essay writing frame of mind).
My experiance with english in HS would lead me to disagree with Freddio in reguard to doing advanced english. All we did in PES English (don't know what you call it but it was the "harder" of the two in yr12) was write essays. good for a way of thinking but terrible for any sort of creative writing or script stuff.

Anyway good luck with it all
