Hi all
I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this,
I need to design 5 different girls with different ethnical background, a blond
scandinavian (this one I now), an asian girl, an Afro-American girl, latino girl, and an
native American girl. Any info on where to find either books on the subject, or even
better artists that have these ethnical backgrounds and draw and or paint there own
people. Or if there is anyone on the list who might know how to draw these
characters and maybe are from anyone of these ethnical groups.
Looking forward hearing from someone,
sincerely,
dt |

Try a book by Burne Hogarth.. it's his head drawing book.. the EXACT name eludes me but it's something like "Drawing the Head." or whatnot. There's a few examples on different head types as they correspond to different ages/races. Sorry I can't be of more help than that.. I'm sure someone else will post the correct name.. or you could just hop on to Amazon.com and I'm sure you'll find it.
There's a lot of mixed reviews on Hogarth on this board, but I think he's alright.

Atlas of Human Anatomy for the artist by stephen Rogers Peck has a chart in the back of it with photos of each kind of major ethnicity. Provicial differences are not included... |

Here is that chart if you can't get to the book anytime soon...
They aren't women, but you can get a good idea of facial shape and structure. The anatomy doesn't change, but the size and proportions of it does...happy hunting...

Wow. Looking at that bushman...so much for the "one eye length between each of the eyes" rule, huh? |

when was this book published? A lot of those classifications don't apply any more (NB: this does not have any relevance to their use as references or to denote regional difference. I'm just a part time natural history nut.)
There's a tribe down on the southern tip of Africa that is currently thought to have the longest lineage of anyone. And if you look at them they have some features of everyone, it's really cool. They look like they're the result of some new multicultural intermingling, but no, they just go wayyyy back.

Thanks a million,
Damn, I actually have that book by Peck somewhere, thanks for enlightening me,
And I actually got the one from Burne Hogarth as well. Hmm maybe I should look
around a bit more before I post next time, sorry...
But when I'm still on topic any hints on the skin colors on the different races would
also be appreciated..
Once again thanks a million..
cheers
