I don't know about anyone else experiences, but some of the people on this forum have no right giving advice.
In the short time that I've been posting I can't help but to notice that the people with the harshest criticism are the ones that very rarely post there stuff or when they post their work it stinks.
I also noticed that the true artists in the forum usually are much more conscientious and have advise that might actually help somebody.
Has anyone ells had noticed this?

Talk about the age old argument.

Nevertheless, I'm always a bit amazed at this attitude. Personally I would like to get feedback from as many people as I can regardless of their skill level. I look at everyone as part of the audience. I don't draw for artists. I would like to draw and have the biggest appeal possible. That means as many people as possible. Thus, what could be more useful than to hear from "people" what they think. In the end its always up to you to filter what you feel is useful, however what a blessing that you have the opportunity to get alot of eyeballs to give you some feedback...

Actually I think Spooge mentioned something along these lines too. He said that his favorite critic was his father who had absolutely NO ART EXPERIENCE or KNOWLEDGE... but that it gave him a perspective of how his work influences
"regular" people...

Just my feelings on the subject.

I'll shut up now.

I like getting feedback from "regalar" people because they think you are god. he he he he. They are like "WOOOOHHHH!!!! How did you DO that??!!?!?"
"regalar" people are good for your self esteem
ALSO, sometimes they can spot stuff in your work that a seasoned artist veteran would totally miss. so that's two reasons to not bite "regalar" people when they crit your work.

peace, out.

Why can't boxing trainers knock out the heavyweight champion they trained?

I don't think the drawing skill is directly proportional to judgement or knowledge.

Well I also want to get feedback from as many people as possible.
Ian, I love feedback from "regular" people..... but it's not REALLY satisfying. I mean whenever some of the people here see one of my drawings they are all really amazed and such, but I still can't feel comfortable as long as I still know a thousand things that I could have done better.
That's why I want critics from real artists. They can tell me whether a pic I did IS good, not only if it LOOKS good.

Another thing is the question why am I coming here ? I'd guess that's because I want feedback from artists, this is an artist board after all isn't it ? And I can see Shadowman's point. Constructive criticism is OK, but bashing someone else's pics is not.

I only opened this thread because I thought this was about personal hygiene...

If hygiene is your thing then check out shizo's foot art post

I just try and sound knowledgable, try using common words like:

composition, values/ranges, tones, blends, shades, perspective, fore/back/midground, realism, subtle, strong, opague, source, depth, focal, imagination,

Comments like:

-Which direction are you taking this?
-great perspective
-Try concentrating more on the focal point
-Nice tonal range
-Awsome blends, you've used those values really well
-Love the use of flat opaque sections, really gives impact
-great use of subtle curves
-Nice sharp lines and those are some fine edges
etc etc etc

Sometimes though the big guys pretty much sum up the critique area's on a pic and that just leaves us to make a general comment or a simple crit that was most likely covered before.

Anyway all crit's are good as long as the person isn't just making shit up! imo

I wrote this as a reaction to something obnoxious that someone said about something I posted.
I guess I took it to personal. If that's how someone feels than so be it. Not everyone is going to like your work. I'll just look at it as a learning experience.

I deeply regret the posting this topic. If I offended any stinkers I will have to apologize for that.

Lukias I remember you critiquing my work and if I remember correctly I liked what you said about the pic.
